Der Kopf eines Straußes (Struthio) im Profil.
Der Kopf ist klein, der Hals lang und nur in den oberen zwei Dritteln minimal befiedert. Die Augen sind mit einer axialen Länge von 39 mm relativ groß und gehören zu den größten unter den Landwirbeltieren. Innerhalb der Gruppe der Vögel stehen sie am weitesten auseinander. Der Schnabel ist kurz, flach und breit.

Barred owl (Strix varia) after it gulped the mole. What a beautiful bird that I had the privilege to photograph this morning.

I started to track owls in this forest in January because it is easier to spot them in the absence of foliage on deciduous trees. I heard them many times, particularly during the mating period.

Now hoping to photograph the owlets in a few weeks.

We get a lot of white-crowned sparrows, but I haven’t seen a house sparrow in our yard before. This one was less afraid of the house finches than the others are too.

Moin! Stellvertretend für die unfassbar vielen, tollen Vögel, die ich in den letzten drei Tagen hören und sehen durfte, hier ein singender Schilfrohrsänger (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) im Schilf Habt alle einen hoffentlich angenehmen Tag

Ein quadratisches Foto. In hellbraunem, trockenen Schilf sitzt ein kleiner bräunlicher Vogel mit spitzem, leicht geöffnetem Schnabel an einem Schilfhalm. Über dem Auge hat der Vogel einen etwas helleren Streifen, die Kopfoberseite ist dunkel gefiedert. Die Flügeldecken sind gemustert, das Brust- und Bauchgefieder eher einfarbig hellbraun. Im Vordergrund unscharf weitere Schilfhalme, der Hintergrund ist einfarbig hellgrau. // A square photo. In light brown, dry reeds sits a small brownish bird with a pointed, slightly open beak on a reed stalk. Above the eye the bird has a slightly lighter stripe, the top of the head is darkly feathered. The wing covers are patterned, the chest and belly plumage rather plain light brown. In the foreground blurred other reeds, the background is plain light gray.
