@AkaSci
I remember, a long time ago, when we started to have fuel efficiency standards. The Japanese hired well educated engineers to solve the fuel efficiency problem, the US #bigCorp hired lawyers and lobbyist to go to DC to have our laws changed.

It is still going on today and in all areas of business.

Want a present day example.
our gov gives more grants to bigCorp for 4 wheel electric cars but not to #aptera which has a well designed 3 wheel electric car....because it has 3 wheels.

@dosnostalgic
Those are the choices the bigCorp gave you but they are NOT your only choices.

You dont need to "recycle" the whole computer!

Words matter.

You need to change only the #os ,replace it with a version of #Linux.

They, the #bigCorp, are assuming that you unable to learn something new.

You either can make things happen for you or you can let things happen to you.

#democracy is more than voting!

I have a good friend, for real, that is slowly going #blind. Is there a good plugin for #thunderbird
to read emails without involving a #bigCorp ?

I'm thinking of
1) Open email in window,
2) click button that says "read aloud"

She is not blind yet, this would be like training wheels to get her use to using a screen reader while she can still see a little.

@Tutanota
This toot was clearly from Tuta and is an info-mercal but it does contain a significant amount of useful information for general use.
TL;DR
most bigCorp email contain an image that is very small, 1x1 pixel.
When you open the email your email manager will request the image and at that point the #bigCorp knows where you are and you are giving them information to identify you in the future.

A few months ago there was a firefox update that introduced AI something something and there were a bunch of people posting about what to turn off and how. (🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼)

I have since had another firefox update and an android update, and y'all I am so fucking tired of this world. I want to escape this shit so badly but I don't have the mental energy to keep up with this shitshow. 😩

What's the plan? We're all gonna turn off those features with every update? Are there add-ons for this already? Do I need a monthly scheduled anti-ai checklist?

@shanesemler Unfortunately, as long as bigots and hate mongers exist, those sentiments will find their way to the #internet.

The key is not to nuke the entire #web but rather take control away from #bigtech #politicians and #bigcorp and curate your own #online experience. Engage with what you want and block anything you don't. Keep your private #data private.

As of now, the best way to do that is through #fediverse #rss and #opensource.

with drones, cars, modems, tiktoc or whatever; the issue is privacy and who owns your data and who can see the code that is in the products we use.
The people that we hire to operate our government are trying to say one #bigCorp can collect the data but others can not collect it.
That will not work.
We must regulate and control all corps that are collecting data independent of what country they are in.

The USA is letting others lead the way in yet another area.

Leaders of the USA do not understand what it means to lead.

All the mules in a mule team lead the wagon but only the lead mule gets a change of scenery.

If we can learn to cooperate, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with others and then we all get to enjoy the scenery.

#bigCorp will kill us all.

The important question is, why is she still in office? and how is she evaluating the important complex issues like health care or AI or is she just voting for what she is told to vote for; a puppet of #bigCorp

Another example of #elder #Abuse.

The #GOP is filling our government with folks that are easy to manipulate.

#democracy is more than voting.

Stop using google yada yada but where else can I search "pizzeria" and filter for "open on monday". Organic maps doesn't do this, even trip advisor and yelp don't have this functionality.

It sucks so hard to see so much of internet being less than mediocre, when conventient stuff like this could actually be provided, but no, of course not.

we could compromise; gravity is real but you fall at a constant rate that way you wont be going as fast when you hit and that would reduce the projected injury when you hit; then we could make cheaper guard rails saving the corps millions.

always think of #science in terms of value to #bigCorp.

we are in for a long and dangerous 4 years and most likely far longer.

#democracy is more than how we vote!

@wdlindsy yes and hence the challenge. I face it too.

It would be better is the #bigCorp #media and the rest of us tried to follow a strategy of saying twice or three times as much about VP Harris as about the former president in each report. ie bookend all reporting of the lies.

I hope #Walz simple says "folks that's a lie, I have staff that will explain it, let me tell you about facts"; make it a mantra or a drinking game, take a drink every time he has to say it:-)

The #bigcorp media is either really dumb or is in on the scam.

Just the air time alone spent talking about all the dumb stuff he is saying is taking away from time that they could be using to report on the honest good stuff that the VP is saying.

That is the goal, suck up the airtime so her words dont get out.

Just reporting on what he is saying is the goal of what he is doing.
We need a free press with old fashion journalistic integrity.

This seems like a good idea. I wonder if anyone is bring it up in the US. I also wonder how easy it is to cheat.
It would go along way to being useful if/when a #bigCorp cheated the CEO and board went to jail.

Remember, big corps have cheated on the emission tests for years and fines are just passed along to consumers.

@codesmith yeah this is totally fair. I think it would be a shame if the fediverses become a fragmented mess like today’s socials are. To me one of the empowering ideas of the fediverse is that I can have complete control over my data by throwing up my own masto server but for other users that step might be too much to ask and they’re likely to want to sign up with a #BigCorp instance of some service without much thought to the underlying protocol.
