I found this strip of birch bark lying outside my garage door the other day. Yesterday I got out my camera and speed light and went to work. One of my goals is to get better at 'studio' lighting this year. This was my first step.

It's that time of the year when the eucalpyts shed the worn, dirty, grey outer bark and emerge clean and bright, ready for the cool season ahead.

My favourite tree bark of today's walk was this beautiful twisting Swamp Paperbark.

A beautiful moss covered Western red #cedar #tree - still unprotected.
Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.

These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.

Today I went for a beautiful walk in a Tasmanian forest with my wife. There were fabulous groves of Swamp Paperbarks interspersed with Silver Wattle, Blackwood, Cherry Ballart, Peppermint Gums and many smaller trees like Hazel Pomaderris.

I couldn't decide on my favourite bark of the day. Swamp Paperbark or Peppermint Gum.

I guess I went from embarking to debarking

I did it with this carving axe, whetstone and a lot of arm juice, which is now empty and may be also empty still tomorrow.

Almost certainly not the best way to do it, but stubbornness prevailed.

Went for a walk by the Mersey River at Latrobe. Didn't see any platypus, but the river was flowing freely, the sun was shining and the trees were awake and friendly.

The cracks and crevices on this once majestic snow peppermint (#Eucalyptus coccifera) tell of the challenges of life at altitude.
