Listening to the Brandenburg Concertos after a long gap and forgot how exquisite the French horn parts are. Concerto 1, movement 3 (Allegro) is something I wish I could play.

Suddenly from my choir-singing early teens comes a snatch of #Bach lyrics.

Der 11.4. war 1727 der Karfreitag - und da wurde J. S. Bachs #Matthäuspassion uraufgeführt. Weit über 2 Stunden ist dieses Wunderwerk lang und damit die längere der beiden erhaltenen Bach-Passionen. Nach Bachs Tod geriet das Werk in Vergessenheit und wurde erst von Mendelssohn 1829 wiederentdeckt. Danach begann eine einzigartige Erfolgsgeschichte.

Sometimes YouTube throws something extraordinary at me out of the blue.

I've just listened to a couple playing Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor on the glass harp. This is an instrument where you drag a wet squeaky finger around a glass to make it ring. I can't begin to imagine the effort they had to put into learning it.

This was done at an Italian music festival around 2010, lasts 11 minutes.

After three days of fulltime #Bach , I'm even more deeply impressed and moved by the work than before, and I didn't think that was even possible.

Like a fractal, the closer you look the more you discover, and not just on an intellectual level. At one point, we were just slowly played the stacked chords of choir+orchestra to clarify the harmonies, and the whole sequence was such a gorgeous avant garde jazz like harmonic progression that we were speechless what is hidden in plain sight.
