Shaula Evans
It looks like I am on the hunt for a new Mastodon instance!

Please let me know if you are on a server that you recommend that fits these criteria:
- hosted in Europe;
- stable;
- well moderated by a team;
- blocks Bluesky / Threads / etc.;
- no petty blocking wars;
- small or medium sized, not large.

Don't need special interest or regional focus. Don't need pushback on my criteria.

Any recs? Denis 🌏
Hivemind: cross-country move advice:

I have my bass guitar, small amp, acoustic guitar, full-size electric piano keyboard.

I'm not a serious musician on any of them, and none are terribly expensive, but I'd rather they not get damaged or stolen (replacement cost).

I'm inclined (especially now that it seems I will have a car-top carrier!) to bring those with me in the car rather than having them be packed in the U-Haul pods.

I would put them in the car, not in the car-top carrier (probably just clothes in the car-top box). My car has tinted rear windows so it's not that easy to see in the back, and I would cover them with some ratty blanket.

Thoughts? My friend feels like I'm better off putting them in the moving pods (she's much more wary than I am of car break-ins), but I'm more inclined to bring them with me in the car.

#advice #askFedi

Klaus Zimmermann :unverified:
Hey Fedi, I'm looking for a way to record *both* the desktop audio and the sound from the microphone when doing a screencast. My usual tool for the job, #SimpleScreenRecorder, while awesomely lightweight, sadly can't record both streams at the same time (at least not without some ugly hacks that do not necessarily work all the time [1]). So what do you recommend?

I'm looking for something light and fast to produce the footage (so no gtkRecordMyDesktop which renders everything after), configurable to record multiple audio sources (command-line options are OK) and ideally with a record-pause function / hotkey so I don't have to edit the stream afterwards.

What I found so far was #kazam [2], which correctly seems to capture both audio sources and the video, but doesn't pause.

What else do you suggest?

[1]: https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/recording-game-audio/#recording-game-audio-and-microphone-at-the-same-time

[2]: https://github.com/henrywoo/kazam

#AskFedi
