Leo<p>Sono riuscito a partorire il listone. In anticipo su me stesso, incredibilmente. È quello del 2024, nonostante abbia tentato fino all'ultimo di trasformarlo in un listone del 1971</p><p><a href="https://acqueagitate.com/2025/01/05/il-listone-i-migliori-album-del-2024/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">acqueagitate.com/2025/01/05/il</span><span class="invisible">-listone-i-migliori-album-del-2024/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://puntarella.party/tags/listone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>listone</span></a> <a href="https://puntarella.party/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> <a href="https://puntarella.party/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://puntarella.party/tags/BestOf2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BestOf2024</span></a></p>
Buffy Leigh (she/they)<p>Okay all, the group <a href="https://mas.to/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> list is up! I've boosted the toot version from <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/@1001otheralbums.com" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>1001otheralbums.com</span></a></span>, but footnotes look like crap on here, so it might look better on the blog. Thanks everyone for taking part, there's some great stuff on here to check out - 132 albums, to be exact! </p><p>Happy listening! And remember, keep your friends close and your records closer. :ablobjam: </p><p><a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/2025/01/01/albums-the-fediverse-loved-in-2024/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">1001otheralbums.com/2025/01/01</span><span class="invisible">/albums-the-fediverse-loved-in-2024/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/MusicDiscovery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicDiscovery</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/YearInReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>YearInReview</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/2024MusicDiscoveries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>2024MusicDiscoveries</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/BestOf2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BestOf2024</span></a></p>
1001 Other Albums<p><strong>Albums the Fediverse Loved in&nbsp;2024</strong></p><p>Okay all, here are 132 albums the Fediverse loved in 2024, mostly 2024 releases but also some earlier gems! Thanks so much to the 60 Fedizens who shared the albums that rocked their world – it’s nice to see some familiar faces from the <a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">1001 Other Albums</a> project, and some new ones! And, as always, it’s so lovely to get a glimpse into all our diverse tastes in music, and to see people trying something new solely based on a random Fedi recommendation.</p><p>Genre tags are included as tasting notes and each title is linked to its Bandcamp or Songlink (with the exception of 2 physical-only releases), so click and listen away – perhaps you’ll find a new-to-you album that gets you through 2025! Check out the footnotes to see who submitted each album, along with any extra comments they included (<em>warning</em>: some comments include MOAR ALBUMS).</p><p>Happy listening, and remember to keep your music close by this year, in case of emergencies. And, if you need more recommendations, you know where to find me.</p> <p><strong>Band – <em>Title</em> (year released, place of origin; genre)footnote</strong></p> <p><a href="https://aaronfrazermusic.bandcamp.com/album/into-the-blue" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Aaron Frazer – <em>Into the Blue</em></a> (2024, US; Honorable mention to: Pinhead Gunpowder, ‘Unt’ – A Billie Joe Armstrong side project of straight up pop punk; Amyl &amp; the Sniffers, ‘Cartoon Darkness’ – Old school garage punk from down under, fronted by a force of nature; Chappell Roan – I don’t even know the name of her album but one of my kids listens to her in the car 24/7 and everything I’ve heard is damn good. ↩︎</li><li><strong>AqiDrago</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>otherdog</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>flockofnazguls</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>svenvabar</strong>: Discovered Interpol this year – that’s the most important thing. What a delightful creature. I first found her in the pandemic when she was posting silly little jingles, especially one about it being a good time to stop giving a fuck. Anyway this year Mansion from this album was my tune, and the whole album resonated. ↩︎</li><li><strong>buffyleigh</strong>: This was my best discovery from the <em>1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die</em> list – yep, I hadn’t heard it before this year – and it kickstarted my obsession with NIN which led to them being my most listened-to artist of the year, in both albums and minutes. [Also see footnote 40.] ↩︎</li><li><strong>avi_miller</strong>: I found this album interesting, and hope others will enjoy it too ↩︎</li><li><strong>shivering_wreck</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>erik</strong>: Ochu are one of my best discoveries of 2024. I first saw them live on a boat in Stockholm, rubbing pieces of wood against each other, breaking branches, etc. On “Dry Routine”, there are also some woodwork, with sounds from both a regular and an electric saw, and all kinds of lo-fi field recordings, layered and looped into captivating pieces. So far, it’s my favorite release of the year. [Note link is to only one song; no digital release, limited vinyl.] ↩︎</li><li><strong>HauntedOwlbear</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>weirdofhermiston</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>svenvabar</strong>: Discovered Placebo this year. Let’s say ‘Without You I’m Nothing’ (1998), but could have been some other album also (‘Meds’, ‘Black Market Music’…) ↩︎</li><li><strong>evilchili</strong>: The best close singers in the business delivered an aptly-named record of loss, death, mourning, and rage. Everyone needs to hear this record. ↩︎</li><li><strong>gavin57</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>TG_Esq</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>MetalheadDana</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>communalsauce</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>Cart</strong>: It doesn’t get any better. ↩︎</li><li><strong>flockofnazguls</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>thesinkingbelle</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>mbr</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>puffer</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>RolloTreadway</strong>: my favourite album ↩︎</li><li><strong>dan</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>BramMeehan</strong>: Ran across [this album] via electrowow the morning of November 6 and, y’know, I kinda needed that. ↩︎</li><li><strong>ArpComics</strong>: Competed in Eurovision for Austria in ‘23, she has a way with words. Just listen to ‘Not Afraid of Growing Old’. Also had a great single with Aiko called ‘Hunger’. [Also see footnote 46.] ↩︎</li><li><strong>cloudtripper</strong>: Give it 30 seconds, if you get it, you get it. The best album I’ve never heard of since X-Ray Spex. ↩︎</li><li><strong>TG_Esq</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>svenvabar</strong>: The new Cure is super good too but the truth is I discovered ‘Pornography’ this year. That one I truly liked. ↩︎</li><li><strong>evilchili</strong>: The best Cure record since Disintegration! We always say that! But it is! || <strong>thesinkingbelle</strong> || <strong>arratoon</strong> || <strong>dan</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>nevar23</strong> ↩︎</li><li><strong>domino_joyce</strong>: Self described as your dad’s favourite miserable disco, if you aren’t hooked by the opening line, it’s not for you. I’ve listened to it more than anything else this year. ↩︎</li><li><strong>evilchili</strong>: Perfect ↩︎</li><li><strong>BootesVoid</strong> || <strong>ArpComics</strong>: Third album from the precocious teens who opened for Green Day this year, with steadily improving songwriting and wider range of style/influences. Andy<p>I’m not going to say too much about it. I think it speaks for itself. It surprised me a bit though. I wasn't expecting Beth Gibbons or The Cure to be here but they really deserve it.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>
Andy<p>The top 10:</p><p>1. Allie X - Girl With No Face<br>2. Sabrina Carpenter - Short n’ Sweet<br>3. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She<br>4. Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown<br>5. The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World<br>6. Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism<br>7. Emma Smith - Hat-Trick!<br>8. Pixies - The Night the Zombies Came<br>9. Opeth - The Last Will And Testament<br>10. Kendrick Lamar - GNX</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>
Andy<p>All of these albums are great. I just feel that Kerry King and Judas Priest aren't really doing anything new.</p><p>I tend to prefer Radiohead to The Smile but they're also very good.</p><p>I discovered the Jon Anderson album a bit too late for it to get in the top 10 but it's a wonderful prog album.</p><p>I know what you’re thinking. There are only 6 in the list. Number 7 is Songs by Regina Spektor, It’s.a re-release but it's so good I wanted to mention it.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>
Andy<p>It's top 10 album time again. I'm going to start with my honourable mentions. They've got a bit out of control as there are 7:</p><p>1. Kerry King - From Hell I Rise<br>2. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield<br>3. The Smile - Wall of Eyes / Cutouts<br>4. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - “NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD”<br>5. The Smashing Pumpkins - Aghori Mhori Mei<br>6. Jon Anderson &amp; The Band Geeks - True</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AOTY2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AOTY2024</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>

Jake in the desert<p>Had my favorite 20 records of the year basically done but then today I have to find a perfect record that I have to put somewhere on the list. HIGH on the list. Ben<p>Having a 25 album <a href="https://metalhead.club/tags/aoty2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>aoty2024</span></a> list is a bit much, so here’s my top 9 (in no particular order):</p><p>Julie Christmas - Ridiculous and Full of Blood<br>Opeth - The Last Will and Testament <br>Thou - Umbilical<br>Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere <br>Houle - Ciel Cendre et Misère Noire <br>Hamferð - Men Guðs hond er sterk <br>The Cure - Songs of a Lost World<br>DVNE - Voidkind <br>A Burial at Sea - Close to Home </p><p>They were fairly easy choices TBH, though narrowing down or ranking any further would be tough. If I *had* to pick my #1, JC would probably just take it. </p><p>The full list (all of which I like a lot) is in this thread: <a href="https://metalhead.club/@brh/113512216936080577" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">metalhead.club/@brh/1135122169</span><span class="invisible">36080577</span></a></p>
