A day of contrasts.
This morning, I’ll solo hike, the weather finally cooperating during the week.
Later today, I’ll bid goodbye to the one other person I’ve hiked with as she moves away.
Life goes on. I’ll continue my last reviews of Book2’s content.

Why wouldn't Lexie put up with their BS you ask?
Because when I took her outside do to her business once, as one does
2 of the 3 squirrels were playing/chasing each other everywhere but mainly in the largest tree of the yard
they wouldn't stop
you can guess what happened next
they fell from the tree BOUNCED!! and continued to keep fighting!
they didn't even acknowledge us or stop
they were fine!!!
She decided she didn't need that in her life and nor did I

It’s coinciding with a long weekend holiday here in the US, which means the trails will be crawling with people, many of them on bikes.
I’ll wait.
Instead, & because I have the freedom to do so, I’ll spend these days on Book2.

John J. Lennon lives at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, where he is serving his 24th year of a 28-years-to-life sentence. He’s also a journalist whose work has appeared in Esquire, the New York Times, the Atlantic, and more. Until last year, he was at Sullivan Correctional Facility, where he mentored emerging writers, both informally and most recently, through the Sullivan Nonfiction Writing Workshop. He writes for @nybooks about setting that up, and what happened when it came to an end with the prison’s closure. “I often think about the time before I came to prison, when I had no promising future. I’ve come to realize that two opposing realities can be true at once: prison probably saved my life and it’s where I learned to write; and prison is a disgusting place that’s hurting me more now than ever,” he writes. “I’m both ashamed and proud of my path. A gnarly old tree straight out of a gothic rainstorm at midnight. Yet, during the day, I noticed all the new growth surrounding it.
I try to be new in some way each day. Some days, life gives me all the new I can handle.
It isn’t enough to be new, we need to be new again.

Yesterday did provide me a nice walk in the rain in the morning.
For the quasi lazy day, I took a look at particular issues with other books, & have a great draft of a blurb for Book2.

Sometimes, on a hike, you find the strangest things. I found this old car (1930s-40s?) fairly high on Blue Mountain, no present day roads close.
It was fascinating & creepy, a strange vibe in the gully there.
Meanwhile, this day-3 of rain & cold temps. I love walking in it.

I don't have pictures because the buggers are damn fast but there are 3 squirrels who like to torment anyone else in the yard they rule with an iron paw...
This is including Godzilla (the first pic I posted) although he likes to chase and go after these assholes too... one of them is also big but not quite as big as Godzilla so we named him (her?) Mothra

I took this yesterday on my morning walk behind where I live. There were 3 deer in total, the other two much farther away.
Loud noises had scared the poor animal, & then I showed up. So, I knelt, which seemed to reassure it.
After it walked past me I took the picture.

Many years ago, I was thinking about something else entirely, and then suddenly went: SEASONS! I have no idea what season any of my stories take place in. I realized I had unthinkingly "set" them in that perpetual summer-ish "season" of TV filmed in California.
Since then, I think about seasons and weather a lot, how they can cast a certain emotion onto a setting. It's a great entry point: eg, what does it smell like?
