Emma Cox
If money wasn’t an issue, where would you arrange a #WordWeavers writing retreat?

Pengersick Castle, Cornwall. A fortified ancient manor house.

I'm not sure much writing will get done. But if your genre is supernatural and/or horror, you will get a lot of inspiration from the spectral residents and the overpowering fear of dread that hangs around the place once the sun goes down.

Emma Cox
Do you prefer writing stories with ensemble casts or with an intimate set of characters?

I prefer writing stories with a limited number of POV characters. But the stories still have a large cast.

#WordWeavers

Emma Cox
Could you imagine a story in the same world where your MC is the antagonist?

Easily. I’ve never been a fan of pure good and evil characters. In my character building I always consider the pov where my villain sees themselves as the hero and my protagonist as the real enemy. It helps to make more rounded characters.

If I’m stuck with any character, I put them in the hero pov and so much opens up about them.

#WordWeavers

Romantic fantasy leads with fantasy aspects but has romantic subplots. Yet, it's the romance I tend to plan ahead, while the fantasy unfolds as I go. 🤔

Anyway, it depends. I might start with a character, or theme, or an aspect of the world I want to explore. I don't limit myself, and am open to things changing.

Except the romance, it seems. 😆

Winged_unicorn🧙🏻‍♀️🌕🔥
a friendly request to the masto authors out there.

if at all possible when a hashtag prompt or something asks for a snippit of your work, I get that everyone shares screenshots. but for those of us who can't see the text in it or who's OCR throws a fit. can there be another way of sharing snippits of your work. a link to a note on IOS or a public dropbox link or a google doc of the particular blob you want to share? or if it's possible share it in your post outright? Do you have any fight scenes in your work? What are they like?

I have sword (and other bladed weapon) fights in many narratives I've written (including narratives set in contemporary Scotland). I've studied books on medieval and renaissance sword fighting practice, and bought and practiced with a (blunt) practice sword, in order to understand and be able to describe this. But I tend to keep my fight descriptions brief and high level, because I doubt I could sustain it longer.
