Ich habe letzte Woche zwei alte, ausgemusterte #UniFi AP AC Pro WiFi-APs erhalten, deren ekelhaft klebrige Soft Touch-Oberflächen jede Menge Schmutz angenommen hatten. 🤢

Zwei alte Stofffetzen, eine nicht unerhebliche Menge Isopropanol, moderate Muskelkraft und vielleicht 20 bis 30 min investierte Lebenszeit später und die Teile sehen besser aus als neu. 🤩

Ffs. My dream of a seamless Thread IoT mesh using HomePod minis as the backbone with both Google/Apple hubs turned out to be dead on arrival. It turns out that multi-vendor meshing requires IPv6 address delegation from my router and of course, UniFi doesn't support this by default. And to make things worse, when I tried to enable it I realized my ISP doesn't support it either! I then turned to trying to make UniFi run with ULA on my LAN, but this seems to require hacks over SSH in the router.

And network people wonder why it takes so long for people to join the revolution

I've upgraded my #unifi UNAS to the release candidate version, which brings in drive 3.x application. This, in turn, brings in support for multiple storage pools in one array. I could finally combine my 4x4TB drives with the more recent 2x18TB drives. I am only missing a volume to volume backup option, but perhaps it will come one day.

I'm contemplating upgrading my parents router to a #Unifi Dream Router 7. The issue I'm wrestling with is I've blown up a half dozen network switches and their current router has one dead port from some mystery issue somewhere in the wired network in their house. I have not had luck tracking down the problem and finally switched as many devices to wifi as I could

Maybe some ethernet-to-fiber boxes would be useful in electrically isolating the router completely from any other ethernet devices?

#HomeNetwork update!

I’ve replaced most of the ethernet cabling to an appropriate length ones. Required some downtime, but managed to it without hurting myself.

Now… It’s apparent to me… SEND MORE SWITCH…😂

8 ports (4 PoE) is not enough and I’m this close to pulling the trigger on 16 port 1U PoE #UniFi switch.

I also really need to put that Raspberry Pi in some kind of an enclosure, and it needs a total rework… But at least it’s quiet and keeps my Wife, well, also quiet - at least about it!😂

So for the #unifi nerds out there - I bought a Flex Utility (store.ui.com/us/en/category/sw) right when they came out to solve some problems I had with cameras (wanted to replace some old Nest cameras).

Finally got around to installing it today, and man oh man - what a delight.
Such a satisfying piece of kit.

Mounted easily, feels really secure, and am now able to run POE to a camera and three small access points at various weird locations to patch dead spots here.

I ❤️ #ubiquiti so much.

Ubiquiti Store Switch Flex Utility - Ubiquiti StoreThe Switch Flex Utility is an outdoor weatherproof enclosure designed for use with the Switch Flex.

And **this** right here is why you shouldn't use "AI" for your customer service:

In my first question, their "Unifi GPT" claims some of their products can work together.

Then, after I checked the specs, I saw that the switch in question only has PoE+ input, not output.

Then their #GenAI model acknowledges.

Absolutely useless ( and wasteful!! ).

Real human customers need information they can rely on!!

/me shakes fist at #ubiquiti

Continued thread

It is now already Tuesday morning but everything is back online.

✅ #Pihole is back up so #DNS resolution works again and the rest of the family can use the internet!
✅ NFS provisioners can provide persistent volumes,
✅ #CertManager issues HTTPS certificates,
✅ #Unifi controller is back up to allow me to actually make changes to my network config (such as, say, change DNS settings when pihole is down... )
✅ #HomeAssistant automates away,
✅ #Nextcloud is seeing sunnier days,
✅ #Photoprism <3

Hi Internet!

Are you like me, and have a big dumb contrived unifi network at home?

has the controller ever shit the bed on you, or have you ever lost your controller? I was running mine in docker on a syno array, which had btrfs issues and the partition 'crashed'. so no more controller.

so i took an aluminum bat to chatgpt for several hours yesterday in addition to a bunch of manual editing and came up with this: a unifi probe shellscript

How are people running the unifi controller on premise these days? I'm thinking of using a container, but I'm a bit worried about how well these unofficial container images are maintained, especially in the long term..
