new song today! OR: in which Rachel goes full darkwave. this is also maybe the second time that I've put my voice at the center of a longer song. I don't really know who I'm channeling on vocals here, exactly - maybe my best attempt at David Gahan with a touch of Tim Bowness? idk 😂

My third album ‘Dirty Blonde’ just hit presale!

It’s out on 17 Nov, limited edition vinyl and CD releases, plus digital services (obvs).

11 songs with everything from falling in love to escaping abuse, growing up with section 28 in the UK, being a happy monogamous lesbian, growing old, stubbornly staying young, being defiantly trans, fairweather allies, and lots more besides 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

My third Bleeding Obvious album 'Dirty Blonde' is released on 17 Nov, available on most digital platforms together with limited-edition CD and vinyl releases.

it's the first #BandcampFriday in a long time, and that means I get to remind everyone that I make electronic music!

I currently have two full-length albums and an EP out, and while all three are priced at a low ($1 each) barrier of entry, I'd love it if you paid more for them if you enjoy the things that come out of my weird little brain!

Artist: Bridge City Sinners (Libby Lux, she/they)

Why? Mix country and metal vocals, add in bluegrass and folk instrumentation, and run wild with goth, emo, and psychobilly themes. This is the unique magic that is Bridge City Sinners.

Where to start?

One of my favorite songs and just a gorgeous music video is "Devil Like You." It tells a campfire scary story like a folk song, while also bringing in themes of the dangers of heteronormativity and more.

youtu.be/ZDgp1Z3EPVU?si=Oh_XGC

Their latest album centers themes of living with mental illness, decentering neurotypical norms. Many of these songs highlight the possibilities of this distinct musical creativity too. "Doubt" speaks to my disordered heart while being a tour of the breadth of their talent.

youtu.be/3cu1dDFjH0M?si=T51cTG

"Crazy" is another one of these, it's both fun and affirms "maybe it's okay" we'll never be okay.

Artist: Lee Teka (they/them)

Why? Lee Teka creates art from inside prison, a voice that should be heard. Also, they have written some catchy bars and rhymes that slap!

Where to start?

Keep in mind, every one of these songs was recorded over a phone call from prison...which makes it hit all the more.

"When a Game is not a Game" is a good introduction, and represents the downright cleverness of creating music from behind bars

I can't get "School to Prison Pipeline" out of my head.
youtu.be/8WR91wDhIeo?si=Yopmur

Meanwhile "Penitentiary Dreams" feels like the realest cyberpunk synthwave I've heard in a long time

Lee Teka is also a comic artist (often under E.L. Tedana), and you can help support them by buying this wonderful anthology of their work from ABO Comix:

Aritst: Chelsea Wolfe (she/her)

Why? Her music captures this amazing tension between delicate and powerful that holds one in the place of unresolved liminality. Not to mention, one of the few artists who has really coalesced what I want most from goth music.

Where to start?

Her latest album is brilliant.

"House of Self-Undoing" is probably one of the best songs to start with, being a great example of delicate possibility riding waves of intensity.
chelseawolfe.bandcamp.com/trac

My other favorite song is probably "The Liminal," as it hits the feels of being a genderqueer and neurodivergent weirdo that lives in liminality.
chelseawolfe.bandcamp.com/trac

hi, everyone! while I post quite a bit about other topics, my real passion is making electronic music! I don't confine myself to any sort of box, and anything I've released typically changes genres from track to track. that said, my main influences include electro-industrial, synthwave, instrumental hip-hop, dance-rock, sound collage, the more psychedelic end of prog-rock, and spoken-word artists like Kae Tempest and Laurie Anderson.

at this time, I have three releases available on my Bandcamp:

nonbinaural is my debut full-length, mostly featuring tracks composed while I was recovering from some pretty heavy trauma in 2022. despite the circumstances surrounding the music, others have called it an expression of trans joy - which I guess it is, in retrospect 😂

eclipse is an EP released in between the two full albums that consists of material that's darker, more experimental, and more spoken-word-heavy than nonbinaural.

the ghost fetish is my most recent release, having just dropped on March 1. contrasting with the previous two, it's a mostly instrumental album, touching primarily upon themes of anxiety and climate catastrophe.

all three can be had for just $1 each, so please toss me a few bucks if you enjoy the listen! your purchase not only includes unlimited lossless downloads, but also (for the latter two releases) purchaser-exclusive bonus tracks!

#TransMusicMonday

My favorite album of hers is "Indecision" (farewellutopia.bandcamp.com/al). It is heavily inspired by 70s and 80s horror soundtracks, reminding of the Goblins and other synthesizer heavy horror musical artists.

It also has a synth cover of "Transgender Dysphoria Blues"!!! Go listen to this amazingness! (farewellutopia.bandcamp.com/tr)

#TransMusicMonday

(NOTE: I'll be taking a break from the fedi for several months after this, just want to leave you all with some great music in the meantime)

Artist: Farewell Utopia (Nikita, she/they)

Why? Because her music hits a lot of diverse synth vibes - chill synth, 80s horror synth, experimental noise - and is an amazing listen! Also...I may be dating her and she is brilliant and beautiful and creative, and go give her a listen already!

Where to start?

Her most recent album, Hypnogogia (farewellutopia.bandcamp.com/al), is really chill and captures some of the late 70s / early 80s futuristic vibes that synthesizers are really great at. It also has some interesting layering, like in "Listlessness" (farewellutopia.bandcamp.com/tr), which is one of my favorites.

#TransMusicMonday

Artist: Laura Jane Grace (she/her)

Album: Hole In My Head
laurajanegrace.bandcamp.com/al

Why? Because Laura Jane Grace's music has been a companion to so many of us over the last decade, and she just released a new album!

Where to start?
"Dysphoria Hoodie" has quickly become a favorite of a lot of trans people, speaking to those days when shit is hard and we reach for our most comforting wardrobe item.
youtu.be/miGIgIqcsXA?si=lF7OM9

I'm also really loving "I'm Not A Cop." Really speaks to the way we start policing each other in leftist and queer communities, and reinstitute the same crap.

#TDOR #TransDayOfRemembrance

Song: Book of Our Names

Artist: Ezra Furman (she/they)

Why?

"Book of Our Names" is like a gospel hymn for the sacredness of trans lives. It is hard not to see it both as about the ritual so many of us perform on TDOR every year, the reading of names and a candlelight vigil, and as a call to faith that we will endure and overcome.

Give yourself a few minutes today to just listen and feel this song.

Album: FADER & Friends: Volume 1

faderlabel.bandcamp.com/album/

Why? Today is something a bit different: an anthology cover album for trans rights! The indie label FADER has brought together a bunch of artists, including trans and queer artists I've shared here before, to raise money for the Transgender Law Center, Mermaids UK, and Rainbow Railroad. Buy it on bandcamp to support these organizations!

Where to start?

I mean, if Ezra Furman is doing something, I’m probably going to talk about it. This is probably one of her folksiest tunes, a cover of “12,000 Lines” by Big Thief.

faderlabel.bandcamp.com/track/

them has also covered this anthology, highlighting a lot of queer artists on it you might want to check out:

hi, everyone! since I'm on a new instance, I figured I'd post again about my music, because I'm excited as hell to share it with y'all! ❤️

I make electronic music, sometimes instrumental, sometimes with spoken-word poetry, and occasionally with some singing when I'm feeling confident. my main influences, genre-wise, include shoegaze and dreampop, industrial, trip-hop and a smattering of spoken-word artists (Kae Tempest, Leonard Cohen, Mike Doughty).

I currently have two albums up on my Bandcamp, rachelunderspoon.bandcamp.com :

  • nonbinaural is a full-length compilation of tracks that I composed and recorded throughout 2022. I never intended to write songs about the "transfem experience," but a few people have commented that they get major feelings of trans joy from the album, and, well, I guess that happened subconsciously somewhere along the way. 😅 but it also touches upon my struggles with recovering from codependency and finding my own voice after a stifling long-term relationship.

  • eclipse is an EP that I released back in April. it contains a few new songs from early 2023, plus a couple left over from 2022 that I didn't feel fit on nonbinaural. it's overall darker and more experimental than the full-length, and it touches upon some more traumatic themes that I wanted to confine to a shorter release.

both albums are available to stream for free, but you can download losseless copies of both for just $1 each. and your purchase of eclipse even gets you three bonus tracks: two instrumental versions of songs on the EP and an entirely original song!

oh, and you can also listen to some of my more recent compositions on my Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/user-93585615

either way, thank you for listening! 😁
