@9to5Mac now this would be a reason to change to GrapheneOS. Even if on-device, Apple has no right to scan and censor anything, unless activated - AI is never just on-device and we've had this subject before.

Another reason not to upgrade to iPhone 17 too, as Apple cultivates unpredictable policies - one might just end up with a piece of scrap-metal in your hands overnight.

#ChatControl proposal failed in the Council of the EU again today! 🎉

Hungary tried to use its presidency to shame critical governments into agreeing to the proposed mass surveillance by forcing ministers to explain themselves during live-streamed public session. This plan backfired:
several countries took the floor to confirm on the record that this would undermine #cybersecurity, attack #encryption with #ClientSideScanning and violate fundamental rights!

This move by the Hungarian presidency shows again the disdain of the #Orban government for European democracy. Sowing discord among member states and playing dirty tricks, rather than addressing the substantiated critique of the proposed mass surveillance.

#ChatControl is a really bad idea, but it also remains a file tainted from its very beginning with shady lobbying connections between #Europol, #Thorn and the EC.
While the European Ombudsperson's investigation is still ongoing, another report by #BalkanInsight reinforces concerns regarding undue influence:

„Europol representatives said that an “administrative error” had resulted in his employment by Thorn being approved unconditionally.”

I am particular interested in what parties in Germany and France have to say about Chat Control.

Do the parties act the same in the national parlament as they do in the EU parlament?

In Sweden, the parties in the national goverment are pro Chat Control in the national parlament and against (at least the conservatives and liberals) in the EU parlament.

Does anybody know about Germany and France?

Vänsterpartiet (socialists)
Centerpartiet (center right party)
Miljöpartiet (green party)
Sverigedemokraterna (racist far right party)

Consistently for Chat Control:

Socialdemokraterna (social democrats)

Mixed:

Moderaterna (conservatives)
Kristdemokraterna (christian democrats)
Liberalerna (liberals)
