One of the wonderful things she did was to set up a Trust to establish creative exchanges between students in Britain and those across the world. She declared, “Future generations will need lots of help to deal with environmental problems and world peace. I just want to spread peace after I peg it.”

Mary Norwood, living in Axbridge, was accused of killing her husband with witchy poison.
On 8th May in Ilchester, she prayed and sang a hymn – amazing she could find any voice at such a time. Then, she was garrotted and her dead body was burnt to ashes.
People believed that by burning her body she wouldn’t come back as a ghost!

Small Snakefly (Xanthostigma xanthostigma) in #Bath #Somerset #UK. Snakeflies are under-recorded and seldom-seen insects - only the second one I've ever seen. This one was beaten from a Hawthorn tree.

#OnThisDay, John Harris died in Frome in 1940. His wife, Alice Seeley Harris, had lived in #Frome as a teenager. Pictured is Frome in 1891.
They travelled to the #Congo as missionaries and discovered Belgian men committing crimes against humanity towards Congolese people, making them work as slaves to collect rubber. Horrified, Alice documented the atrocities by taking photos. This eventually helped spark change in the Congo.
