And councils always give the gig to the big guys who outbid smaller local contractors by coming in at the lowest prices and consequently deliver a poor service because they pay low wages or subcontract to cowboys.

The Procurement Act is supposed to give SMEs a fighting chance in this process, but somehow I doubt it because the big guys will play the system with their subsidiaries and so the race to the bottom will continue.

Who will benefit from #Reform’s DOGE? Farage - headlines = votes.

"Reform’s UK DOGE has been formed. It’s a team of world-class software engineers, data analysts, and forensic auditors working for free.'"
- proudly announced Zia Yousuf of #Reform

But where was the procurement process of these world-class software engineers?

And are we given to think, that a team from Silicon Valley are being flown over to go through Maidstone's spreadsheets?

Perhaps next week, Zia will tell #Kent how 30p will be the top price in its restaurants?

Good times
#KCC

Lib Dems have accused #Reform of causing ‘paralysis’ at #KCC as the party cancelled multiple scrutiny meetings this month.

Folkestone and Hythe Lib Dems said in a statement that Reform has also yet to confirm which, if any, scrutiny committees will be formed.

The statement said: “For the first three weeks of June, there were FIVE committee meetings timetabled. FOUR have been cancelled.

So Kent is going to be the test bed as to how DOGE will work in the UK

I shall try to report as to what's going on xx

Zia Yusuf, chairman of Reform UK, during a news conference in London, UK, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Now the Connecticut Senate has passed a bill that will make it easier for drivers to reclaim their vehicles.

Why are people taken in by #DonaldTrump in the #USA and #NigelFarage in the #UK ?

Because people are desperate, and people are angry.

Desperate angry people lash out without any thought of the consequences.

When someone in a movie throws a glass vase at a wall in anger and desperation, you never see the following scene of them clearing up the mess.

This is the bit the #Trump / #Reform voters don't get: with the exception of the very elderly, they will inherit the mess.

#Reform council abolishes flood committee in flood-prone area

#Lincolnshire #council has #abolished its #flooding committee on #ReformUK’s first day in charge.

That is despite Lincolnshire suffering some of the worst flooding in its history in both 2023 and 2024, with 900 homes affected, as well as further flooding in January this year.

Reform’s phony war on #woke

#ReformUK wants to scrap anything with even a hint of ‘woke’ about it. Now that they run 10 councils, they have their opportunity.

There’s just one problem: they keep targeting schemes that just don’t exist – at least not outside the imagination of the /RightWing press.

Here are three times #Reform went to war with non-existent policies …

Meet Reform’s regretters: councillors quitting just weeks into the job

#Reform is seeing unusual number of #councillors #resigning in their first few weeks in office. In each case, it will trigger a council #byelection costing in excess of £20k

Reasons range from dodgy #SocialMedia posts to not being eligible to stand in the 1st place

We look at some of them in more depth. [This article may be updated to reflect further resignations]

Zia Yusuf, #Reform UK’s chair, said last week there would be a “large-scale reversal” of existing LTNs in the 10 areas across England where the party won control of the councils in the local elections on 1 May.

LTNs are low traffic neighbourhoods (traffic calmimg bollards), and the councils where Reform won: Derbyshire, Doncaster, Durham, Kent, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, North Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and West Northamptonshire all said they had no such schemes.

🤭

"Previously, we have seen one or other of the #LibDems or #Reform (and their predecessor parties) perform well at a set of local elections. We got a taste in 2024 of what might happen should both perform well at once at a general election, though largely at the expense of an extremely unpopular incumbent party. This week we got a further indication of how this might look when both the ‘main’ parties are seen by the electorate as failed governments."
