@nekohayo #DoNotBuy I promise I am not spamming you, I just want to add this to my do not buy list so I don’t forget. I had to make a list during the last #recession because I would forget and then I would buy things that I used to like to buy, then I would be reminded why I stopped buying them. It was a paper list back in 2009, I think hash tagging it might help me more this round.

#GlobalEconomy already feeling drag from #TrumpTariffs

#Trump's #tariffs are increasingly clogging up the wheels of a world #economy which for decades were greased by predictable & relatively #FreeTrade.

Big-name multinationals right down to niche e-commerce players last week cut sales targets, warned of #job cuts & reviewed their #business plans, while major economies revised down growth prospects amid bleak data read-outs.

#Trump rejected any notion of empty store shelves or increased #prices, but still maintained that #consumers may be affected.

“I’m just saying they don’t need to have 30 dolls. They can have 3,” he repeated on NBC. “They don’t need to have 250 pencils. They can have 5.” [wtf?]

He also focused on certain aspects of the #economy—including #energy prices—& was dismissive of cost increases in other sectors.

#Trump said he was not worried about the #economy contracting under his watch but did not rule it out.

“Anything can happen…But I think we're going to have the greatest economy in the history of our country. I think we're going have the greatest economic boom in history.”

Last week, new data showed that the #USeconomy shrank in the first 3 months of the year, a stark reversal after nearly 3 yrs of solid growth. Part of the reason for the dip was attributed to Trump’s #tariffs.

He reiterated his criticism of #FederalReserve Chair #JeromePowell for not lowering interest rates & suggested that it was due to personal animus — “He just doesn’t like me because I think he’s a total stiff,” he said — but also said that he would not remove him before his term is up in 2026.

#Trump downplayed concerns about the potential for a #recession, saying, “Everything’s okay. What we are. I said, this is a transition period. I think we’re going to do fantastically.”

By late May or early June, consumers could start to see some empty shelves, and layoffs could occur for retailers and logistics industries. The major effects on the U.S. economy of shutting down trade with China will start to become apparent in the summer of 2025, when the United States might slip into a recession

When asked why they’re doing this, the #Trump aide—who says they & their partner have done similar household-supply hoarding lately, & are also “stashing cash” reserves in their DC-area home—simply replies: “Because it would be stupid not to!” The aide adds that they still believe in Trump’s #tariffs regime, though [😜], citing the supposed advantage of “short-term pain” in exchange for long-term “prosperity.”

2 #Trump admin ofcls & a Trump aide tell Rolling Stone that they have done some stockpiling of their own in recent weeks or months, & that they know others working in #Republican politics—inside & outside of the admin—who are doing the same. One of the Trump ofcls says they have already run to Target to bulk-buy toilet paper, some types of food, & other household supplies.

…experts have warned consumers not to hoard supplies & goods…

Well, many Americans aren’t listening…, instead preparing for the possibility of store shelves being bare amid a #Trump-inflicted #recession. Funnily enough, this includes a number of govt ofcls & staffers working directly for the man who launched these massive new trade wars, all on the grounds of bad #tariff math & the flimsy premise that he would bring economic “liberation” to America & make the country “wealthy again.”
