It’s been 3 years since the EU turned its back on Russian energy, with a plan called #REPowerEU. ⚡🇪🇺

Thanks to this plan and targeted EU sanctions, we've made major progress in:

🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏽 Protecting citizens and businesses
💡 Avoiding energy shortages
🌬️ Accelerating the energy transition
🤝🏻 Finding more reliable partners

The EU’s reliance on Russian energy imports remains a security risk and the REPowerEU Roadmap, presented on 6 May, is our path to the EU's full energy autonomy. 🔋💯

Since 2022, #REPowerEU has met most targets and is now on its way to getting rid of Russian gas, nuclear energy, and oil.

Under the new Roadmap, the EU will:

🛡️ Safeguard energy security
⚡️ Speed up the energy transition
☀️ Stabilise energy markets

We will:

🛑 Stop all imports of Russian gas and oil by 2027
🛢️ Tackle sanctions circumvention by the Russian ‘shadow fleet’
☢️ Restrict supply of Russian nuclear materials
🔎 Improve traceability of Russian gas imports

Our Christmas wish: clean energy made in 🇪🇺.

In 2022, we’ve generated more electricity from wind and solar than gas.  In 2023, wind power alone outpaced gas.

Thanks to #REPowerEU, our plan to phase out Russian fossil fuels, we are accelerating renewable energy deployment across the EU.

And we continue on this path.

Our goal is for renewable energy to account for at least 42.5% of our energy consumption by 2030.

Let's power this future.
