If you declined, #RadioShack would sell you the goods anyway. They asked for your contact details, but wouldn't walk away from a sale. That was a rational policy, because, otherwise, people would have given false details, and sending out those printed catalogues wasn't cheap.

Cleaned up my late grandma's 1970s #RadioShack Archer Road Patrol #radio. Originally my dad's radio for his bicycle -- it has a little threaded mounting hole at the bottom, though there's no mounting hardware anymore.

He gave it to his mom so she could listen to her Padres games -- it was set to the station, so all she had to do was turn it on.

There's not really much to listen to on AM these days. I may gut it and install the gubbins from a BT speaker.

I didn’t watch the sou. Instead I opened up and fixed my old radio shack cd/cassette/radio. I’ve had this thing for over 20 years and it has had some heavy use. I honestly didn’t expect it to last more than a few years, it was a novelty, after all. It’s shaped like a pyramid, even the speakers and the base swivels. One side is for cds, the opposite side is for cassette. And some cleaning and easy part replacements and it’s good as new again. #physicalmedia #radioshack

A new version of #ugBASIC, the open source isomorphic #BASIC compiler, has been released for #TRS80 #ColorComputer 1/2 and 3 (check under Hardware > Targets).

ugBASIC is a cross-compiler for #Linux and #Windows, for writing simple language games, that can run on dozens of different home computers, and 8-bit consoles.

There is also a convenient built-in IDE for Microsoft Windows, and even a sandbox.

Its not just that, though.

Say a company DOES do right, even through hardship. Like.... #RadioShack .

They collected untold amount of #PII from people with "name address phone#" even for simple battery purchases. Did they do anything with it? Only internally.

Well, that is until #bankruptcy court. Radio Shack defended keeping the PII private because thats how it was given to them, in trust.

The bankruptcy court INSTEAD said that PII was worth X million, and was to be sold. End of discussion.

If a court refuses to acknowledge privacy rights, and informed consent, and instead goes "well fuck that its works loads of money", well, yeahh. The whole enchilada is untrustworthy.

72 years of Radio Shack catalogs are now online. *72*! Radio Shack!

The first catalog from 1939 is filled with amateur radio components, as you might expect, and is quite expansive for a company solely in New England at the time.

I remember browsing the aisles for parts every chance I could, in the days before computers and cell phones. I still have resistors and LEDs from their variety packs. I got my CB radio from them. #RadioShack #HamRadio
