It took a while to get my head around as I’m a complete noob at it, but this afternoon I’ve got Docker and Portainer setup and a container running Nginx.

Also got a cronjob running every 10 minutes to automatically update DNS records in Cloudflare whenever it detects my public IP at home has updated. 😎

@sven222 hilft evtl. diese YT-Suche? youtube.com/results?search_que

Today I got into Docker as I'm planning to not only host Owncast and Caddy but also other platforms/services.

Docker helps separating these services from each other on your server, so they don't interfere. It comes with pre-built docker images of many well known applications in the field of self-hosting.

🌟 Self-Hosting Journey Update! 🌟

After weeks of work, I'm excited to share my self-hosted setup! 🎉 I'm running everything on a Raspberry Pi 500 with Stormux (Arch Linux ARM-based), 8 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SD card (planning to upgrade to SSD or NAS as soon as I can afford it). Here's what I’ve built so far:

🔧 Services in Action:
- Development: Forgejo, Code-Server, Woodpecker CI
- Productivity: Joplin Server, Monica CRM, Homepage dashboard
- Monitoring: Prometheus + Alertmanager, Grafana, Netdata, Uptime Kuma
- Networking: AdGuardHome + Unbound, Tailscale VPN
- Tools: MiniFlux, Linkding, TheLounge
- Management: Portainer, Cockpit, Watchtower

🔒 Security & Access:
- Caddy + Cloudflare Zero Trust/Access for reverse proxy & SSO
- FirewallD + Fail2ban for extra protection

📧 Emails Powered by Zoho ZeptoMail:
All email-capable services (e.g., Forgejo, Joplin) are configured for reliable notifications.

💾 Backups: Using IDrive's 5 TB plan for peace of mind.

This journey has been challenging yet rewarding! 🚀 I'd love to hear your thoughts—especially tips on scaling storage or optimizing performance. Let's chat! 💬

This week-end, was a bit productive in my #homelab :
* Installed #portainer to see what it’s about and test some applications
* Started to install #vaultwarden , but still have to figure out why it’s not working
* Installed a local #WriteFreely instance to test it as a replacement because I need to move my blog away from its current hosting platform. I will need to write a script to migrate the current articles to WriteFreely
* Started to look at #traefik and #caddy , I’m not a cloud native at all, and they looks like strange beasts to me 😅

I don't know if everyone does this, or if I'm crazy smart, or if I'm super dumb.

I'm setting up this #proxmox server. I know I want to run docker containers in VMs, for security. I also know that I want to separate the docker container VMs per use case. I also don't want to have to install #docker and #portainer repeatedly.

So I basically made a base VM with openssh, docker and portainer installed and configured. Then I can clone that and tweak it to suit my needs. #nextcloud? Let's bump up the disk image size.

I just need to change the hostname and set static IPs and it's super easy.
