Recycling works! Wealthy countries export their waste to poor countries and then re-import it as food. And there I thought recycling was mostly a lie.
It's not exactly cruelty-free food anymore though, unless you exempt cruelty to humans.

Except, of course, the C-suite, PR teams, Boards and legal advisors, as well as researchers who know where their funds come from.
You gotta be impressed by Kool-Aid's loyal adherence to the worst designed beverage container of all time. Made even better with now the most flimsy cardboard straw on earth.

What unnecessary plastic packaging drives you crazy?
I'll start with something I noticed this morning. Cereal used to come in waxed paper bags inside the box, not plastic. It was fine. This was the 70s, maybe even the 80s.
This post about extended producer responsibility legislation for plastics got me thinking about it. #PlasticWaste

PLANET OVER PLASTIC
One of the single biggest contributors to the #PlasticWaste crisis is plastic #packaging.
In 2018 alone, 14.5 million tons of plastic containers were produced.1 Most of that was used just once before it was thrown out, where it usually ends up clogging #landfills, contaminating the #environment, and threatening #wildlife.
This big problem has a simple solution: We need to eliminate unnecessary plastic packaging.

the planet broke a new record for total plastic production last year.
if you say we can't afford to #recycle #plasticwaste, you haven't really done the math.
there's already a price on plastic.
yet we somehow just can't see it clearly yet.
the cost for #plasticpollution's projected damage to human health, agriculture, fishing and wildlife is immense.
it is literally a steal of deal to buy plastic back before it enters the #environment, whether or not it is ever recycled.
back in the early heyday of #plastics, the great conjecture was that it was just a matter of time until we found an easy, natural way to break down plastics and make them reusable.
I bought in—I made the scientific leap that let me follow that conjecture—that some bacteria or enzyme or process would be found soon for the #plasticwaste.
60 years of #BigChem promises and profit taking, with no discoveries—and those made even less likely by their lack of corporate responsibility..

The problem of plastic pollution is too big for any one nation to handle. That’s why we need a global approach. It’s worked before with the ozone layer and acid rain and it can work again with plastic.
