Earth Star mushrooms are wonderful, looking like flowers with petals. This was the best I've seen this year.

It’s been a banner week for Hemlock Varnish Shelf mushrooms… getting photobombed that is! Look closely.

1. Culprit: Ink Cap mushroom tucked in on the far left side.

2. Culprits: Multiple rows of Wolf’s Milk slime mold in front.

Reading up on #mushrooms from forager websites, I recalled these huge #fungi I found on the forested slopes of Tava (“Pikes Peak”) in 2018. So I went back to find the photos.

Not sure but I think they may have been giant porcini mushrooms. If so they could have fed a large family for days. Some were the size of my shoe.

Left them alone for others to enjoy, including the trees that trade carbs with them for other nutrients. #mushtodon

Fingers and crustacean claws coming up from the forest floor. I thought I might have discovered an orange variety (on the right) but on closer inspection it’s a maple seed.

Late afternoon Friday dog walk and spotted what looked like the yellow of dying moss on a log deep in the woods. “Wonder what's killing it?” I thought, walking by. Curiosity won out, I scrabbled through the brush and found the truth.

Fly agaric seen on my walk last Sunday. With all the shit going on in the World, I wish I had a good mushy trip...

It was 4° cooler in the woods, but we were biking uphill which is great for warming up in the winter, no so much in this weather.
I stopped to take photos of slime molds and mushrooms often enough to keep cool.
