“HIGHLIGHTS
• [They] propose the first comprehensive quality framework for street view imagery.
• Framework comprises 48 quality elements and may be applied to other image datasets.
• [They] implement partial evaluation for data in 9 cities, exposing varying quality.
• The implementation is released open-source and can be applied to other locations.
• [They] provide an overdue definition of street view imagery..."

Have you heard of #Panoramax? They bill themselves as the **free** "street view"

It's a test instance of #GeoVisio run by IGN with the French #OpenStreetMap community where you can share your street-level imagery collection.

They're conceptually in the same space as #Mapillary, #KartaView , or #GoogleStreetView.

Images taken outside of France are welcome, although the low-level zoom maps aren't available just yet.

Check out their project: panoramax.ign.fr

OpenStreetMap Belgium announces European camera grant project.

No less than 20 GoPro Max cameras available for qualifying contributors to contribute 360° street-level pictures.

OpenStreetMap Belgium · European camera grant projectOpenStreetMap Belgium & Mapillary are teaming up to improve the availability of street-level imagery available in the European Union! To help do so, we will be distributing a number of GoPro Max 360° cameras and associated gear to volunteers all over Europe. The 360° imagery we will generate will help improve Mapillary coverage as well as provide street level imagery for the OpenStreetMap community to use to further improve their map data. Read more about why OpenStreetMap Belgium likes open street level imagery. The program Meta has financed twenty GoPro Max 360° and accessories to capture on foot, by bicycle or by car. The kit includes suction cups, an SD card, a selfie stick and gear to mount on a bicycle helmet. The GoPro Max was chosen for four reasons: Ease of use: The GoPro Max is incredibly simple to use. Just hit record and drop the images into Mapillary’s Desktop Uploader. Form factor: The camera is lightweight and designed for action, which makes it suitable for a variety of capture scenarios you might have in mind. A lighter camera means lighter mounting equipment. Cost: It’s affordable, allowing us to scale up the program and get more cameras to more people. Image quality: While there are cameras capable of capturing a higher quality 360º image, the GoPro does a lot considering its price and form factor. Mapillary is able to derive a lot of map data from GoPro Max images including the location of sidewalks. Objectives & requirements There will be more candidates than we have cameras, so we will be evaluating candidates based on their track record and potential. Some things to consider: We’d like to focus on areas that are less accessible in cars, like paths and trails or city centers. We’ve had good results with shooting from a bicycle, but are open to other ways of collecting images too. You need to provide your Mapillary username and already have uploaded at least 100.000 images. The only exception we can make is if you are part of an organization (company, local mapper group, nonprofit,…) that you might turn into systematic contributors. You need to live in a European Union country, to simplify cross border transactions. We expect you to use the camera for a long time. We retain the right to ask you to send the camera back if it is not used for six months or longer. We encourage candidates from existing networks, so that the camera can be shared between community members. The original recipient needs to keep us informed about the whereabouts of the camera. You should have access to a sufficiently strong internet connection with sufficient quotum to be able to upload imagery. We have a strong preference for people who are already contributing to OpenStreetMap and/or have plans for specific uses for the imagery or its derived data already. The questions in the registration form may change as we gain experience. Apply now! Selection process Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis until all twenty applicants have been accepted. Selection criteria and granting decisions will be made by OpenStreetMap Belgium with input from Mapillary and selected community members and will be made to maximize probable data collection and data use. Any questions or suggestions: send them to cameras@osm.be Apply now!

@bysariipek can you answer a couple of questions:

- is there any plan on becoming available on #Fdroid ?
- does it just create an overlay on existing OSM data or is it either directly integrated into the data set or come with the option to export the data ?
- how does it deal with conflicting OSM data ?
- are there options to connect to existing image sharing sites like #mapillary or #KartaView ?
- under what license do my uploaded photos fall ?

Top #Mapillary contributor wrote they stopped using the app, and started sharing their imagery on #KartaView, saying "I figure it all ends up in #OpenStreetMap. But #Mapillary has made it too difficult to upload data."

I've only used the command line tools for uploading, and there were hitches a few weeks back but they *seem* to be working again, but I've yet to see the processed photos.

Meanwhile, the same photos that I uploaded in #KartaView was usable in OSM after a few hours.

Huh, is there someone playing tricks with the speed limit sign? (Yeah, I believe so 🤣)

11 May 2020: 90 km/h

14 May 2020: still 90 km/h

18 May 2020: someone stuck 80 instead

22 May 2020: 80 km/h was still up

17 June 2020: ... and it was removed.
