serious business :donor: :heart_cyber:<p>Most people on here have already pointed out how relying on US cloud megagiants like Microsoft to safeguard your digital life is a poor choice.</p><p>Not to sound like a cryptopilled satoshimaxxing coinslut, but incidents like this really highlight another important set of questions that seems to go largely unanswered in the cryptoskeptic discourse:</p><p>- What institution controls your dollars?<br>- How costly is it for them, actually, to turn it off?<br>- How difficult would it be for you, actually, to restore it?</p><p>Surely the answer can't be that we just have to trust Bank of America? That doesn't seem like a good answer to me, in a world where the US federal government is increasingly authoritarian and lawless.</p><p><a href="https://apnews.com/article/icc-trump-sanctions-karim-khan-court-a4b4c02751ab84c09718b1b95cbd5db3" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">apnews.com/article/icc-trump-s</span><span class="invisible">anctions-karim-khan-court-a4b4c02751ab84c09718b1b95cbd5db3</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/uspol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>uspol</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cybersecurity</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/banking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>banking</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cryptocurrency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cryptocurrency</span></a></p>

rk: it’s hyphen-minus actually<p>Oh and they store everything in JSON files on disk. The best way to access these files is to build commands to a jq-like binary and then call system(cmd). They build arguments from user-controlled parameters, but it’s okay! They escape punctuation and pipes and quotes so it’s safe. </p><p>They wisely don’t escape $ or ( or ), though because you might want to use those in your command. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.well.com/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a></p>

rk: it’s hyphen-minus actually<p>Want to print to /dev/console? This is obviously the best way to do it:</p><p>snprintf(buf, 100, “echo ‘%s’ &gt;/dev/console”, arg1);<br>system(buf);</p><p>They used snprintf with a known static size and they used single quotes when passing the argument to echo so this is secure. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.well.com/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a></p>
