It's strange that media and people get all excited about Russia launching ICBM-like missiles at Ukraine because they could also carry nuclear warheads. While the Iskander missiles , already used for a long time, are also nuclear capable.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova received a call during her Nov. 21 press briefing instructing her NOT to comment on the ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine
The attack involved an intercontinental ballistic #missile (ICBM). If confirmed, it would mark the FIRST use of an #ICBM in war, a weapon primarily designed for long-range #nuclear strikes.

Russia Used First ICBM in History of War
by @jakebroe

Ukraine has confirmed used their first British #StormShadow missiles on the territory of Russia a day after using #ATACMS on the territory of Russia.
Russia has responded by launching an #ICBM that is nuclear capable at the city of #Dnipro.
#JakeBroe is a US Air Force veteran covering the Russian war in #Ukraine several times a week since February 2022
President Vladimir Putin touts Russia’s new missile and delivers a menacing warning to NATO.
@AssociatedPress reports: "He described it as a new, intermediate-range ballistic missile that raced to its target at 10 times the speed of sound. 'Modern air defense systems that exist in the world and anti-missile defenses created by the Americans in Europe can’t intercept such missiles,' Putin declared in an icy and menacing tone."
Why #US General In Charge of #NuclearWeapons Said He Needs #AI
“We are also developing #artificialintelligence or AI-enabled, human led, decision support tools to ensure our leaders are able to respond to complex, time sensitive scenarios,” #AirForce General Cotton said October 27. Cotton is the head of America’s Strategic Air Command (#STRATCOM), the portion of the U.S. #military that handles the country’s #nuclear #bombs and intercontinental ballistic missiles (#ICBM).

Putin stated that in response, Russian Strategic Rocket Forces struck the Yuzhmash missile factory near the city of Dnipro using the non-nuclear hypersonic ballistic missile "Oreshnik," and the strike was considered successful.
In his address, Vladimir Putin declared that the conflict has taken on a global dimension. Russian military facilities in the Bryansk and Kursk regions have been attacked by Western missiles. On November 19th, six ATACMS missiles, and on November 21st, Storm Shadow missiles struck targets in the Kursk and Bryansk regions.
Medium-range missiles can travel between 1,000 and 3,000 km (620-1,860 miles) while the intermediate-range one can travel between 3,000 and 5,500 km (1,860-3,410 miles). An #ICBM can travel even further.
My 2 cents about the alledged #ICBM: Russia didn't say anything about the results of yesterday's Storm Shadow hits. Which i interprete as: They (and probably NK) got really bad news from those. So, Putins only way to show his people and Kim Yong Un that he is a tough guy was this ICBM.
It was a message to the west, yes, but probably also a message to NK.

#Ukraine got hit by a ballistic missile made of six blocks, each containing six light rods. There is debate over if this was an intercontinental ballistic missile, which would make it an #ICBM, but the distinction is irrelevant given the potential range is not the important bit, the warhead is.
These missiles could carry nukes, large bombs or this cluster variant and of the three, this is arguably the least destructive. At $80mn a pop these very scary things are not likely to be in regular use, especially given the US needs to be told in advance in order to not trigger a strike on Russia.
This is a demonstration of strength by Putin probably in response to Storm Shaddows on a military HQ.

#ICBM is now trending across Mastodon
Congratulations to #Ukraine. We became the first country in history to have #ICBM launched against.
I’m too tired to comment on the free world and its leaders being a bunch of spineless, scared pussies. You know that without me.
#Germany especially. First you fed that monster with your money, and now you won’t allow us to use the rockets against it. But the monster can use ICBM and North Korean troops and that’s fine with you guys.
History is a bitch with a sense of humor.
[13:35] What is the ICBM Ukraine says Russia fired?
A Russian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that Ukraine says was fired at the city of Dnipro was an RS-26 Rubezh, Ukraine's Ukrainska Pravda media outlet reported, citing anonymous sources.

Ukraine says Russia launched an intercontinental missile in an attack for the first time in the war.
@AssociatedPress reports: "While the range of an ICBM would seem excessive for use against Ukraine, such missiles are designed to carry nuclear warheads, and the use of one would serve as a chilling reminder of Russia’s nuclear capability and a powerful message of potential escalation."
