Better title: How the West Failed the Unhoused
And then they have the nerve to say that the problem is not Capitalism and Wage Slavery - it's us and our unwillingness to work, our laziness. That's complete bullshit!! The fact is that we live under a system that is for the most completely irrational and meaningless. Every apologist for capitalism must be utterly brainwashed, severely under the influence of bourgeois ideology ->
"In the end, the effect of There Is No Place for Us is stunning and bleak. Goldstone tells stories of undeniable injustice, none of them with a happy ending or a victory for the good guys. Each story is incontrovertible evidence that the American dream is a lie and that hard work, loving your family, getting good grades, or whatever other bullshit this country supposedly reveres doesn’t guarantee a safe living. In fact, they have absolutely no bearing on whether you end up OK or sleeping in your car with your three kids.
These stories are not five individually explicable outliers concerning people who were simply unfortunate; instead, they are five out of millions of similar stories. As readers conclude There Is No Place for Us, they will feel both the deeply personal impacts of the tragedies explored in the book (...) Every tragedy is unique, and yet in some respects it is not; these tragedies are everywhere, all the time, just often hidden from sight.
And what does it mean to have these stories laid out? If there were any justice, it would lead to enormous change. They are stories of people so obviously oppressed by our institutions and forces far beyond their control—people who are not merely unlucky or who have made bad choices—that the need ought to be clear. A book like this ought to be a rallying cry, the 21st-century equivalent of Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle."

Congratulations to Street Roots on its multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and its new partnership with ProPublica!
The capitalist state won't care for the working class. The working class has to help each other to survive.

People are being left homeless while the Executive hides behind empty promises and soundbites. Families waiting for help are being told to wait even longer, as the number of new social homes is cut from 2,000 to just 400.
Housing is a human right, not a privilege for the few. If the Executive is serious about tackling the housing crisis, it must fund it like a crisis.
Anything less is a disgrace.

"The median household in California has more wealth than the median household in most other states. Yet this fact masks the reality that more than 40 percent of households lack the financial reserves to meet their basic needs for a few months if their income drops ... Moreover, about one in five households in California (21%) report being unable to afford monthly bills"

Wow. Thank you, John, for this note of yours. I admit I was unaware of Raynor Winn, but your incisive comment made me hooked.
(I also shed a tear or two, but then I am the kind of person who cries easily, ask my daughters.)

What does it mean to survive in a world not built for you? As a person living with multiple, complex disabilities, I am forced to conduct this broken orchestra of my life, juggling pain, systemic barriers, and the constant threat of homelessness.
This is not just my story, but a reflection of countless others who have been failed by systems meant to support us.

Lots of tents, tarps, sleeping bags, socks, and more going out the past couple weeks at our regular distros.
Amazing how no one has even commented on this. Just like I knew it would be and just like the text in the bottom.
This is a "notice to remove 'personal property ' from public spaces because homeless people do not have US Constitutional rights in AmeriKKKa.
They've been coming for the homeless for decades but your silent because your not homeless.
They've been coming for non-white people for decades but your white so you barely make a whisper.
They've been coming for gay people for decades but your not gay so you barely make a whisper.
Soon, there will be no one left to stand up for you...
WAKE THE FUCK UP before your on the list.
The USA is a terrorist country ran by rich people. Are you rich enough?

Under the Ford government, housing construction is stagnating, rents are astronomical and any remaining affordable housing is rapidly disappearing. There also aren't enough emergency shelters. Last year, the province operated just 27,138 shelter beds, despite more than 80,000 people being homeless #housing #ontario #ford #homelessness https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/doug-fords-america-inspired-solution-to-homelessness-wont-work-this-will/article_e901003b-7c62-45d4-ad3b-68dd67820d82.html
“To eliminate homes at the same time that we say we’re having a housing crisis is unconscionable.”
The Trump Regime's funding cuts for rental assistance is a nationwide crisis.
"Fresno CA officials warn that Trump’s budget cuts 50% of funding for local rental assistance.

The tone-deafness in wake of the migrant round-up by ICE is mindboggling. Newsom, what the hell, man!?! #migrants #homelessness #california https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/12/newsom-california-ban-homeless-encampments
Think of the undertones of #Biden declaring that rising #homelessness is a result of #immigration
And all of this isn't even speaking to the dangers outside of the four walls of that cramped hotel room.
Each week, I see more in the way of actions against #brown #immigrants, against the #disabled, against those on the spectrum, against those without stable housing.
Why is it that when the #DNC was due to be held in #Chicago, there was a massive #homeless camp sweep, yet #homelessness wasn't seen as a speaking point in #political debates?
