It’s interesting that 1776 (Dec of Indep) has mythic stature for so many Americans while 1787-88 (drafting/ratification of the Constitution) is mostly an afterthought.
Americans put great stock in FREEDOM from external power.
They can’t really be bothered w the complexities of forging a life in common or the work required to convert liberty into EQUALITY.
The Constitution birthed the nation, but most celebrate the idea of being unfettered instead.
‘Once Upon a Time in Gaza’
The word “Gaza” these days conjures conflict. And you put Trump’s “Gaza Riviera” plan statement in the film, as well as occasional references to Israelis bombing with missiles. What was it like for you making this film at a time when the latest tragic developments were happening in #Gaza?
I want to tell you something. We had been writing this film for a long time and when we got to a point were we thought it was finished that was on Oct. 6 [2023]. We were so proud, we decided to throw a small party with two close friends, one of whom had just came back from Gaza. And we spent a night with him just telling us how the people there were more miserable than usual. Then, after Oct. 7 we spent five months creatively petrified in front of the TV and on the phone with our family who lives in the north of Gaza. Then suddenly we decided: “OK, we have to go on, we have to go back to the script.” And we decided that what the film is about is history repeating itself and a people that has no options, no horizons, no dreams. They never surrender. They continue. They continue their life. That this is the #politics inside this film. We are talking about the people who is trying to survive.

The strike lasts 21 weeks before the American owners of the factory agree to all demands.

#OnThisDay, 24 May 1883, Emily Warren Roebling crosses the Brooklyn bridge in New York City on its opening. She had been the first person to cross it in a carriage beforehand, carrying a rooster as a sign of victory.
Roebling had overseen the construction from 1870, after her husband – the official chief engineer - was injured onsite.
