abolitionmedia
Vietnam: A Victory Never to be Forgotten

It’s a historic anniversary that the U.S. ruling class and its allies around the world wish we would forget. Fifty years ago, on 30 April 1975, U.S. imperialism suffered the worst military defeat in its history as troops of the North Vietnamese Army and South Vietnam National Liberation Front took complete control of Ho Chi Minh City (then called Saigon) and the few scattered areas of the south that had not yet been liberated.

The Vietnamese victory was the culmination of more than three decades of struggle against Japanese, British, French and American imperialism. At the time, the United States was, as it still is today, the world’s leading military power. And yet that incredible power was defeated by a small, underdeveloped, mostly rural society.

The U.S. war against Vietnam at some stages involved well over half a million regular U.S. troops. During the war, the U.S. unleashed previously unimaginable firepower against the Vietnamese forces and the population in general. The tonnage of bombs dropped on Vietnam was approximately three times the total for all theatres in all of World War Two. The U.S. also employed chemical warfare, such as defoliants containing dioxin, which are still today causing deaths and genetic damage.

Vietnam received limited military supplies from China and the Soviet Union, but they were never enough to be decisive. Surface-to-air rockets, for example, increased the U.S. Air Force’s military losses but never came close to stopping the U.S. air war.

And yet all this firepower was unable to prevent Vietnamese victory. Something proved more powerful than massive weaponry. That reality is the lesson that the imperialists want us to forget.

The liberation of Ho Chi Minh City provided a striking emblem of the limitations of technological military power. As helicopters flew the remaining Americans and some of their Vietnamese agents to warships waiting offshore, the U.S. Navy pushed each emptied helicopter overboard into the sea to make room for those still in the air.

What eventually defeated U.S. military power? First and foremost was the heroism and endurance of the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese resistance gradually widened doubts and divisions in U.S. society, opening time and pathways for opposition to the imperialist war within the U.S. and eventually on a massive scale worldwide.

Combined with the US’s inability to inflict a decisive military defeat, this continually growing political opposition contributed substantially to the U.S. rulers’ calculation that continuing the war could cost them more than they were likely to gain. They could see that, around the world, oppressed and exploited peoples were concluding that the U.S. was not invincible and that it could be successfully resisted.

Earlier struggles similarly influenced the antiwar movement. After the 1940s and ’50s era of McCarthyism and “red scare” reaction and house-breaking of most labour unions, things began to shift with the rise of the Black civil rights movement and the ’60s cultural and political radicalisation. The opponents of the Vietnam War who organised the early teach-ins at universities were, in part, following the example of the combination of propaganda and action of early fighters for Black rights, particularly in the U.S. South.

The influence went in both directions. In April 1967, I was conscripted (“drafted”) into the U.S. Army in Chicago. By chance, this occurred on the same day that boxing champion Muhammad Ali had been ordered to report for induction—which he had publicly announced he would refuse because of his religion as a member of the Nation of Islam and his ethical objections to the war.

Ali, who had a talent for concise and colourful explanations, said, “Man, I ain’t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong. No Viet Cong ever called me nigger”. (“Viet Cong” was the name the U.S. military and media gave to the National Liberation Front.) A week before his scheduled conscription, Ali added:

I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people, they wouldn’t have to draft me; I’d join tomorrow.

There was considerable public interest in what Ali would do, and one of the soldiers staffing the Chicago induction centre had turned on a radio tuned to a news broadcast. With the report that Ali had refused to be conscripted, I heard one of the Black soldiers mutter, barely audibly,

Damn, wish I had done that.

As Vietnamese resistance forced the U.S. to increase its troop numbers in the country, conscription also necessarily increased, including of inductees who were either opposed to the war or at least suspicious of it. For thousands of young Americans and their friends, relatives and partners, the war stopped being a strange conflict in a distant country and became an immediate threat to their wellbeing. The impact was all the stronger for their ability to view scenes of the war on nightly TV news.

The U.S. ruling class was beginning to learn something that had only begun to be evident during the 1950-53 Korean War: there is a significant difference between a “citizen army” in which the citizenry feels its interests are seriously threatened by a menace such as fascism, and one facing an abstract enemy such as “communism” that poses no immediate threat—or an oppressed people fighting for their liberation. People who had witnessed or participated in mass antiwar protests tended to have their opposition increased, not weakened, by induction into the military.

During my two years in the army, 1967-69, all within the United States, the challenge was not to convince fellow soldiers that the war was wrong. We had to persuade other soldiers that they could do something about it. This was the period during which the publication of rank-and-file antiwar “newspapers” (really newsletters) proliferated at military bases in the U.S. and overseas.

At Fort Dix in New Jersey, we called ours the Ultimate Weapon, because the base’s main function was infantry training, and the Army liked to call its infantry “the ultimate weapon”. In the early ’70s, the Student Mobilization Committee, the most radical of the antiwar coalitions, launched a GI Press Service, which sought to provide information, exchange and cooperation among the varied military antiwar publications. We eventually knew of more than a hundred of them.

The spread of antiwar activity in the U.S. military was aided by higher-ups’ bureaucratic efforts to suppress it. A battalion commander who learned of “subversive” activity within his domain, fearing that it would hamper his chances for promotion, would arrange for one or several suspected “ringleaders” to be transferred to a different base, hopefully distant. It could not have been better designed if the object had been to encourage the spread of antiwar activity. The eventual situation was described by Colonel Robert D. Heinl, Jr., in Armed Forces Journal, 7 June 1971:

The morale, discipline and battleworthiness of the U.S. Armed Forces are, with a few salient exceptions, lower and worse than at any time in this century and possibly in the history of the United States. By every conceivable indicator, our army that now remains in Vietnam is in a state approaching collapse, with individual units avoiding or having refused combat, murdering their officers and non-commissioned officers, drug-ridden, and dispirited where not nearly mutinous. Elsewhere than Vietnam, the situation is nearly as serious.

In short, the U.S. rulers were worried about the effect of the war, not only on their troops in Vietnam, but on their armed forces more generally. President Nixon tried to ameliorate this situation through his program of “Vietnamization” of the war, which essentially meant withdrawing U.S. troops from Vietnam and supplying the puppet “Republic of Vietnam” with sufficient weapons and financing to fight on for U.S. interests.

From the U.S. standpoint, this was always a forlorn hope, which became increasingly evident after the departure of U.S. ground troops in 1973. When the liberation forces launched their final offensive in early 1975, the “RVN” forces largely melted away or collapsed.

The impact of the Vietnamese victory is still with us, something that capitalist rulers are still trying to overcome. In the U.S., that impact was often called the “Vietnam syndrome”, as though it described some sort of unfortunate disease. In fact, it referred to the reality that large sections of the U.S. public had seen that their rulers lied shamelessly about a major military conflict. Consequently, they tended to look sceptically at further military operations.

It has since become standard U.S. political doctrine that any new military adventure needs to be carried out quickly so that there is no time for large parts of the public to become really aware of it. To restore their ability to intervene militarily around the world, the U.S. rulers found it necessary to abolish conscription and to rebuild their army as “voluntary”—meaning using social and economic coercion to enlist mainly the poor and oppressed racial minorities.

The ending of conscription was a major setback for U.S. imperialism, and its rulers are today, half a century later, wondering whether they can get away with reintroducing it.

You can see another lesson ruling classes have drawn from Vietnam in government responses to the widespread upsurge of solidarity with Palestinians against the genocidal Israeli war on Gaza and the West Bank. The speed and extremism of government reactions against the first university protest encampments showed their fears of protests growing and spreading as they did with Vietnam. It’s the reason for the attempts to suppress free speech and the almost hysterical attacks on protesters. And just as imperialist propagandists of the Vietnam War sought to discredit opposition as “communism”, today supporters of Zionist genocide try to label any opposition as “antisemitism”.

Our side has also drawn some lessons, which is a part of the reason the Palestinian protests have taken the form they have: both the initial encampments and reaching out to broader layers through large and vocal rallies and marches. Around the world, there are uncountable numbers of oppressed and exploited people who may know little or nothing of the Vietnam War but who have absorbed the understanding that imperialism is not invincible, that it can be defeated by determined struggle, and that “If you don’t fight, you lose”.

Originally published in Red Flag

https://abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/?p=19010

#asia #guerrilla #imperialism #resistance #vietnam

abolitionmedia

On the western front of the Zap region, three Turkish soldiers were killed by the Kurdish guerrillas on Sunday evening. The Press Office of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) said in a report on the current war in South Kurdistan that the soldiers were hit when a mobile guerrilla unit managed to attack a group of Turkish soldiers. The incident took place not far from the bridge to the village of Kevnê Mijê. Another four soldiers were injured.

In response to the action, Turkish fighter planes attacked the area in two waves that night before Sikorsky helicopters landed in Sergelê for evacuation flights. After the dead and injured soldiers were transported away, further attacks took place in the morning – this time on the ground and by both the Turkish army and Peshmerga units of the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party). The HPG did not comment on the extent of these attacks.

Another soldier was shot dead by an HPG sniper in Girê Bahar on Monday morning when Turkish troops tried to set up new positions in the area surrounding the massif.

In Girê Amêdî, the guerrillas also prevented activities by soldiers on Sunday night and in the two days before that aimed at expanding the Turkish forces’ military infrastructure.

In nearby Girê Cûdî, fighters from the Free Women’s Units (YJA Star) destroyed a camera surveillance system installed in the resistance area on Saturday. Also on Sunday, the women’s guerrillas struck in Metîna and stopped an attempted advance by enemy troops on Serê Metîna. Machine guns were used, but it is unclear whether the Turkish soldiers were killed or injured.

In Xakurke, a combat helicopter was targeted by the guerrillas on Sunday night. The aircraft had to turn around and leave the area as a result of intensive shelling.

Attacks by the Turkish army

With regard to the attacks by the Turkish army on South Kurdistan, the HPG’s report said that the tunnel systems in Girê FM and Girê Cûdî were bombed at least 14 times with banned weapons between 6 and 8 September, and in two other cases explosive drones were used.

In the same period, the HPG also recorded at least 43 air strikes with combat aircraft and a further 22 attacks with combat helicopters. Targets were hit in Xakurke, Gare, Zap, Qendîl and Metîna.

HPG corrects casualty report

In addition, the HPG corrected earlier information about their fighter Bager Kurdistan (Nureddîn Mihemed Sîno), who, according to a statement dated 20 June 2024, was killed in an attack on the Avaşîn region. “This is not correct. In fact, our comrade Bager was injured in the attack on 14 June and was subsequently taken prisoner by the enemy. We would like to sincerely apologize to the relatives of Bager Kurdistan and the Kurdish population for this mistake,” said the HPG.

In other news, the Afrin Liberation Forces (HRE) said that 8 mercenaries linked to the Turkish army were killed. The HRE said in a statement about the actions carried out in Azaz: “Our forces continue their retaliatory actions against the attacks and policies of the Turkish state.

In this context, a mercenary was killed in a sniper action carried out by our forces in Azaz on 26 August.

Two sniper actions were carried out in Azaz on 2 September. Two mercenaries were killed in the action.”

The statement continued: “On 7 September, our forces attacked gang members on the Enabke and Meyremine lines in the Shera district. The gang members had surrounded themselves with German wires out of fear. Despite this, our forces managed to deal heavy blows to the gang. All the gang members were killed. Our forces seized the ammunition the mercenaries were carrying. In this action, many cameras, mobesse and surveillance devices were destroyed. As a result of the action, 5 gang members were killed. 2 AK-47 type weapons and a large amount of ammunition were seized. A total of 8 gang members were killed in these actions.”

https://abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/post/2024/09/11/hpg-kills-four-soldiers-in-zap-hre-kills-eight-mercenaries/

#afrin #guerrilla #hpg #iraq #kurdistan #pkk #resistance #rojava #turkey #westAsia #ypg

abolitionmedia

Kobanê is one of the places that wrote an epic with its valiant women and sons. It wrote not only its own epic, but also the epic of the peoples’ freedom. Ararat Tolhildan (Sara Cezayir), one of the heroic YJA Star guerrillas, opened her eyes in Kobanê, the symbol of resistance and victory. Her guerrilla journey, which started in Garê, continued as a strong fighter in Xakurkê. She fell a martyr whilst fighting against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self.

Her personality shaped with the Kurdish culture

She grew up in the bosom of the revolution, witnessing the epics of the heroes who led the revolution. Her family, patriotic and loyal to their values, had shaped her personality with the Kurdish culture. She enlightened her heart with the light of the children of the fire and the Sun who fought against the dark Ehrimans of our age. As her heart was enlightened, her soul opened its wings to freedom. She was a child of revolution and always carried the spirit of revolution in her heart. She illuminated her path in the light of Rêber Apo’s (Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s) philosophy. As the darkness wanted to reign in the lands of Kurdistan, these lands were illuminated by the fire lit by the children of the Sun in the mountains. Ararat was a woman who grew up with this light and enlightened her heart. As her heart was enlightened, she revealed the colours of women whose consciousness of freedom became revolutionary, who fought and became free by fighting.

Wholeheartedly devoted to the path of truth

The comradeship of the PKK and the stance of the women comrades attracted Ararat’s attention. In particular, the struggle of the women guerrillas based on their own strength and the fear they strike in the hearts of all reactionaries arouse her admiration. On the one hand, the slave markets of the mercenaries that surpass the middle age. On the other hand, the reality of Rêber Apo, who created the free woman. The more she sees these inhuman attacks, the more her anger and hatred increases, and for this reason she wants to take part in the position of freedom created by women. Seeing herself as a part of the revolution taking place in Rojava, Ararat seeks to recreate herself by constantly living with the enthusiasm of the revolution. Believing in Rêber Apo’s paradigm, she actively carries out youth work. If the darkness is to be enlightened and all the ugliness that enslaves is to be destroyed, it will only be through Rêber Apo’s philosophy and ideology. She devotes herself wholeheartedly to this path of truth.

Journey to he free mountains to wage a stronger struggle

Ararat turns her face to the free mountains to wage a stronger struggle on this path of truth to which she devoted herself. She wants to meet with every inch of soil of her country, to recreate herself in the mountains. The mountains are the sacred lands where she will create herself with the colours of freedom. She wants to fight in the mountains and fight against the Ehrimans of the age as a guerrilla. Guerrilla is the name of holiness in Kurdistan. Being a woman guerrilla means meeting with your own essence in the place of goddesses and recreating life. Ararat walks in the mountains as a freedom fighter with great excitement and enthusiasm. Her meeting with the mountains, her desire to create herself by fighting in the mountains is quite strong. For her, the mountains are a sacred place where women create their own sociality and liberate their society by defending it. As she integrates with the mountains, she feels that her soul becomes even freer every day.

Taking success as a basis

She makes her first practice in the mountains in the Garê area. Garê gives Ararat a lot of experience in guerrilla work. She prepares for more difficult areas. Her self-sacrificing participation in life, her courage and self-confidence develop her in a short time and make her an experienced guerrilla. She becomes a young woman who quickly forms herself in the liberating mountains and the simple beauty of nature, creating life with the energy of nature. Thanks to her simple and modest approach, she creates harmony in her relations with her comrades and brings together all the beauties of comradeship in the PKK. She takes success as a basis in all her endeavours.

Walking with stronger steps every day

She takes life in its entirety. As she develops herself in Rêber Apo’s philosophy and ideology, she succeeds in life and war. She is aware that the isolation imposed by the enemy can be responded to not only by actions but also by creating the free woman identity that Rêber Apo wants to create at every moment of life. With this awareness, she struggles to create a free woman’s identity by deepening on the line of the free woman. She walks with stronger steps every day against all difficulties in her struggle and march for freedom. To fight against the invaders is to protect her people, her land, her identity and to defend her honour. Ararat grows a great anger in her heart against immoral attacks. To fight against an army that has no sense of humanity and morality and to uproot them from these lands is to defend the honour of her people and humanity. With this determination, she becomes competent in war.

Fighting against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self

She fights against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self. If fighting is liberation, she is a Kurdish woman who liberates herself a little more every day with her fight. Her guerrilla journey starts in Garê and continues as a strong fighter in Xakurkê. She becomes a militant who acts with a great sense of responsibility to play a strong role in this war and leads her comrades with her stance in life. As a result of the occupation attacks in 2024, she joins the caravan of martyrs. As a YJA Star guerrilla representing the pioneering female identity of the new era, she once again shows the invincibility of the Apoist spirit with her stance and courage in this epic resistance.

https://abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/post/2024/09/11/ararat-tolhildan-a-child-of-the-revolution-from-kobane/

#guerrilla #iraq #kurdistan #pkk #rojava #turkey #westAsia #yjaStar

abolitionmedia

The Afrin Liberation Forces released a statement announcing the death of two of their fighters in the Turkish-occupied Afrin city.

The HRE statement on Monday said: “The Kurdish people, the owners of these ancient lands, have always faced policies of attack, genocide and destruction since history and have been left alone. The above-ground and underground, cultural and geographical riches have become a place of occupation for the enemy. With the emergence of the genius and ideas of Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), especially with the determinations and analyses he made, Leader Apo said ‘Kurdistan is a colony’ and started the freedom march. Our people, who were on the verge of extinction, found their existence in the thoughts and philosophy of Leader Apo. It rebuilt itself from the ashes, revived and developed. One of the cities of Kurdistan that took its place in the struggle and resistance for the unique victory of our freedom march is our city of Afrin.”

According to the statement, HRE fighter Xalid Mihemed was martyred in the Shera district of Afrin in a brutal attack of the occupation forces on 7 September. “Xalid Mihemed, who was born into a patriotic family, grew up attached to his culture. Based on his principles, he did unprecedented work for his people so that they could return to their lands.”

HRE fighter Kemal Pîr, on the other hand, was born in Rajo district into a patriotic family committed to Kurdish culture and identity. “With the beginning of the Rojava Freedom Revolution, our comrade grew up in the revolution while he was still young. Especially when al-Nusra, ISIS and various bloodthirsty groups attacked our people with the support of the occupying Turkish state, our comrade Kemal Pîr went to the frontlines of battle. Comrade Kemal showed that he could protect our people against the attacks of the enemy thanks to a strong struggle and a great will. He gained important war experience in this process. In the reality of our country, Comrade Kemal became a true fighter. He both deepened himself in the field of military training and gained knowledge in the field of military culture. He shared everything he learnt with those around him. Because of these intelligent and knowledgeable features, he gained great love among his friends. After the occupying Turkish state invaded Afrin in 2018, our comrade moved to the front lines with his companions and joined the war of freedom and honour against the occupying Turkish army and gangs. Comrade Kemal participated in the freedom march with big dreams and goals from the day he joined until the last moment. In the most difficult places and times, he did his duty with no concerns on the front lines. He always selflessly fulfilled the duties and responsibilities of the time for our people to return to their lands and to end the oppression and occupation on our lands. Comrade Kemal was martyred in the Afrin region on 7 September 2024 while on duty.”

HRE expressed their condolences to the families of the fallen fighters and to the patriotic people, reiterating their promise to their people and their martyrs that they would follow in the footsteps of their fallen companions and liberate the city of Afrin from occupation.

The identity information of the two fighters is as follows:

Nom de Guerre: Kemal Pîr
First-Last Name: Loqman Henan
Mother’s Name: Emîne
Father’s Name: Reşîd
Date and Place of Martyrdom: 7 September 2024/Afrin

*****

Nom de Guerre: Xalid Mihemed Mihemed
Mother’s Name: Xaliye
Father’s Name: Mihemed
Date and Place of Martyrdom: 7 September 2024/Afrin

In other news, the Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement that guerrillas Amed Efrîn, Firat Sêrt and Fedakar Yadigar, fell as martyrs in July in attacks by the Turkish army in the Xakurke region of South Kurdistan. The HPG paid tribute to the martyrs, saying they were revolutionary militants and selfless bearers of hope for the Kurdish people, and expressed their condolences to their families and the people.

The HPG provided the following information on the identity and biographies of the fallen soldiers from Rojava and Bakur:

Code name: Amed Efrîn

First and last name: Zeki Hasan

Place of birth: Efrîn

Names of mother and father: Zeynep – Muhammed

Date and place of death: July 20, 2024 / Xakurkê

Code name: Firat Sêrt

First and last name: Mehmet Selçuk

Place of birth: Sêrt

Names of mother and father: Asya – Haci Gurî

Date and place of death: July 20, 2024 / Xakurkê

Code name: Fedakar Yadigar

First and last name: Mücahit Önal

Place of birth: Mûş

Names of mother and father: Yadigar – Selahattin

Date and place of death: July 21, 2024 / Xakurkê

Amed Efrîn

Amed Efrîn was born in Efrîn-Jindirês and grew up in an environment close to the Kurdish freedom movement. He attended a state school for six years and experienced the oppression of the Kurdish population by the Syrian regime first hand. As an adolescent, he was involved in the revolutionary youth movement in Northern Syria, and in 2012 he joined the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla. After basic training in the Medya Defense Areas, he took on various tasks in the mountains.

When he wanted to return to Northern Syria to defend the revolution in Rojava, he was arrested by the Assad regime. A year later, he was released and went back to the mountains. There he took part in ideological training and intensively analyzed Abdullah Öcalan and his own personality.

He then went to Xakurke and took part in tunnel construction and the construction of infrastructure. When the Turkish occupation attack on the region began, he fought on the front lines. During an attack on 20 July, he fell as a martyr.

Firat Sêrt

Firat Sêrt was born in Sêrt-Berwarî and grew up in the culture typical of the Botan region. He was already familiar with the Kurdish liberation movement as a child and admired the guerrillas. After eight years of classes at state schools, where he had to speak Turkish instead of his mother tongue Kurmancî, he began working to support his family.

When ISIS attacked Kobanê in 2014 with the support of the Turkish state, Firat decided to join the armed resistance and went to the mountains. He took part in training for new fighters in the Medya Defense Areas and then did practical training in various regions in South Kurdistan.

He was last deployed in Xakurke, where he took part in the resistance against the Turkish occupation as an apoist militant. “Our comrade Firat fought for the values he believed in until the last moment of his life. On 20 July 2024, he joined the caravan of the martyrs during an enemy attack and thus went down in the history of our people’s struggle.”

Fedakar Yadigar

Fedakar Yadigar was born in Mûş and grew up in an atmosphere shaped by the Kurdish resistance tradition. In his environment there was a high level of awareness of the freedom struggle and Fedakar became a sympathizer of the PKK at an early age.

From 2012, he worked as an active member of the Kurdish youth movement. Deeply affected by the massacres committed by ISIS with the support of the Turkish state in Rojava and Shengal as well as by the liberation of Kobanê, which was fought for at great sacrifice, he joined the guerrillas in Bakur (North Kurdistan) in 2015. He quickly got used to the collective life of the guerrillas in the mountains and, after training, he went to Xakurke, where he took part in practical work and carried out difficult tasks.

Guerrilla Fedakar Yadigar was killed in an enemy attack on 21 July 2024. “He defended Kurdistan at the cost of his life,” the HPG said.

https://abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/post/2024/09/10/two-hre-fighters-martyred-in-afrin-three-hpg-fighhters-martyred-xakurke/

#afrin #guerrilla #hpg #hre #iraq #kurdistan #pkk #rojava #turkey #westAsia

abolitionmedia

As previously reported, Turkey announced a comprehensive military operation in the Gara Mountains this summer, but guerrilla resistance has foiled its plans.

Earlier this year, AKP officials ramped up their war rhetoric, highlighting preparations for new military campaign in Southern Kurdistan under the pretext of the “Development Road” project, a road, rail & pipeline route connecting the port of Basra with Turkey. In spring Erdoğan highlighted near completion of a security perimeter along the Turkish-Iraqi border, aiming to permanently crush the Kurdish Freedom Movements Guerrilla by summer.

As KurdistanWatch correctly analysed, a comprehensive military operation in the Gara Mountains is of major significance. The region is crucial for the guerrillas capability to thwart wider Turkish occupation attempts in Southern Kurdistan. To proceed with an operation in Gara, Turkish occupation forces must first control Metina & parts of the Zap mountain range. This is the main goal of the large-scale operations launched in April, which essentially began with operations in Avaşîn, Zap, & Metîna from 2021 onwards.

A Source close to the Guerrilla states “relative progress of the Turkish Armed Forces was entirely due to war technology, not to the fighting capacity of the soldiers.” As the Guerrilla developed anti-drone measures, the balance on the battlefield changed dramatically. According to the guerrilla, the military wing of the PKK, close to 20 drones were destroyed during the last 16 Months

“The soldiers of the Turkish army, whose technical superiority had been neutralized, were literally trapped in Zap & Metina.” the sources continues. Ironically, Turkish armed forces had called the operation “claw-lock”. Now it is the occupiers themselves who are being locked in

In a interview given in Mid-June Besê Hozat, KCK co-chair explains: as Turkey is not able to succeed “It wants the Peshmerga & Iraq to take part in this war more openly & actively. […] They are pushing & pressuring Iraq. But Iraq has obviously not fully accepted Turkey’s impositions.”
Murat Karayilan recently noted that Iraqi participation in military actions against the Guerrilla would not only justify the invasion but also erode Iraqi sovereignty. He emphasized importance for Iraqi authorities to withstand Turkish pressure & protect their national interests.

As of today, Turkey failed to capture crucial points in Metina, vital for securing supply & transport routes for an operation in Gara. Despite massive aerial raids & use of chemical weapons Turkish forces can’t take the Guerrilla’s heavily fortified positions & war tunnels. Nevertheless, as foreseen by the Kurdish Freedom Movement attacks intensified during the last weeks: “We said that at the end of May-early June the war would intensify and gain scope. And this is what is happening now.” ads Besê Hozat.

Under the guise of economic development, Turkey’s occupation of Southern Kurdistan risks lives and livelihoods. With over 50,000 troops stationed there, part of a broader elimination campaign against Kurds, this aggression must cease in order to protect the region’s people

More Information on Turkey’s “Development Road” project and its role in the war against the Kurdish Freedom Movement

Support the Guerrilla practically and donate to the “Gas Masks for the Guerrilla campaign”

source: https://riseup4rojava.org/

https://abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/post/2024/06/19/turkey-stuck-with-preparations-for-operation-in-the-gara-mountains/

#colonialism #guerrilla #iraq #kurdistan #pkk #resistance #rojava #turkey #westAsia #ypg
