"On behalf of the people of Boston, and in solidarity with the cities and communities targeted by this federal administration for our refusal to bow down to unconstitutional threats and unlawful coercion, we affirm our support for each other and for our democracy. Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone."

America can't act. Oligarchs have bought out the GOP (so no impeachment), the SCOTUS (so no judicial restraint) and the media (so most don't even know how bad it is).

No point blaming the Democrats, voters left them with a minority in both houses of Congress so they have zero power.

Best case (being really optimistic), Dems with bog majorities in 2026 and can impeach. Otherwise, perhaps a #GeneralStrike to shut down the economy.

Today in Labor History July 16, 1934: The San Francisco General Strike began, with 150,000 workers participating. The longshoremen’s strike actually started on May 9 and lasted 83 days, leading ultimately to the unionization of all West Coast ports. The strike grew violent quickly, with company goons and police brutalizing longshoremen and sailors. They hired private security to protect the scabs they brought in to load and unload ships, housing them in moored ships and wall compounds that the strikers attacked. In San Pedro, two workers were killed by private security on May 15. Battles also broke out in Oakland, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. On Bloody Thursday, July 5, in San Francisco, police attacked strikers with tear gas and with clubs while on horseback and later fired into the crowd, killing two and injuring others. A General Strike was called on July 14 and began on July 16, lasting 4 days. Many non-unionized workers joined the strike. Movie theaters and night clubs shut down. Many small businesses shut down & posted signs in solidarity with the strikers.

On July 17, the cops arrested 300 people they accused of being communists, radicals or subversives. The National Guard also blocked both ends of Jackson Street that day with machine gun-mounted trucks to aid vigilante attacks on the Marine Workers Industrial Union headquarters and the ILA soup kitchen. They raided many other union halls and communist organizations. Vigilantes kidnapped and beat a lawyer for the ACLU, as well as 13 radicals from San Jose, CA.

We don't have to stop *all* work and *all* purchases to have a general strike. We can have the same effect by snipping the billionaires (and therefore their bought politicians) right out of the money cycle. Work for yourself, a local business, or a cooperative. Buy from single proprietors, local businesses, or cooperatives. Bank with a credit union. All your basic needs can be met this way. Leave Bezos, Musk, Trump, and their ilk out in the cold, wondering why no one will pay them or work for them anymore.

The democrats are a center-right party - you can see what they're doing to Mamdani simply because he has the gall to be an actual opposition candidate. The democrats are NOT going to materially oppose the fascism of MAGA.

I doubt many people want to hear this, but the USA probably does actually need a proper communist party, and it needs to work with existing trade unions as well as help organize and improve the lives of enormous numbers of precarious / gig / contract workers.

Defeating this wave of fascism will probably also require other measures, but coordinated solidarity and general strikes have historically been fairly effective tools against the consolidation of fascist power. For a lot of reasons, I am pretty pessimistic about the ability of scrappy local antifascist organizing to accomplish this.

Infosec ExchangeArdy’s (@risibledog@infosec.exchange)During Trump 1, plucky / scrappy antifascist activism was reasonably effective; but that was before a critical mass of industry & oligarchs threw their lot in w the MAGA movement (including its worst, most explicitly fascist /nazified elements). I do actually think that changes things pretty significantly, even without the purges & outright cronyism entailed by Project 2025.

Coming back to add:

This is something you can do *right now* to fight fascism. Cancel billionaires! Only give your money to single proprietorships, mom and pop businesses, and cooperatives. Cut the billionaires right out of the money cycle, every chance you get. Leave them stranded, high and dry, an island in the river. Cut off their supply, their oxygen. Never stop. Starve them. Suffocate them. Hit them where it hurts. Keep hitting till they no longer exist. Never again!

The conservative operatives masquerading as #SCOTUS justices are the ones ensuring that Trump can successfully dismantle democracy.

"He found that in cases brought against its sprawling excesses the Trump administration has lost 94% of the time at the district court level. That’s a truly terrible litigation record. But at the Supreme Court, Bonica found, DOJ won 94% of the time."

Grinding commerce to a halt is the only way to stop this.
