Jeff Fortin T.<p>With performance improvements in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GNOME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNOME</span></a> over the last 2&nbsp;years, as of GNOME&nbsp;48 I can say we are mostly on par with "lightweight" desktop environments in terms of responsiveness, on any Intel / AMD hardware from the last 15 years (if you use an nVidia GPU: get a real GPU, you masochist).</p><p>I see no real advantage for "light" DEs on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> for today's old hardware.</p><p>Below: mom's <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ThinkPad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThinkPad</span></a> X220 (from 2012), &amp; dad's AMD desktop (from 2009).</p><p>My own PC has an AMD GPU from 2013 + CPU chipset from 2009.</p>
