I can't believe I have to say this mastodon. This isn't 1996, and you're not learning how to use Eudora:

When you're replying to a boosted post: Do. Not. CC. Everyone.

Reply directly to the person you're trying to speak to. Remove the @'s to everyone else not directly involved in the conversation.

yes, I know the clients automatically chain on the usernames of everyone involved in the post, but this is 1990s era basic netiquette and not magic.

People of the #Fediverse do your thing, again! I need tips for a browser beyond the usual. I'm currently using #Firefox (my browser of choice for a very long time), but tabs recently keep crashing all the time - an it's particularly annoying when (for work) I am doing something on a platform that doesn't save things automatically (notoriously my uni stuff).

So, write me your suggestions for a private, stable, and reliable browser!

Frustrations with character limits? Here's how you can work around them:

* highlight and "cut" whatever doesn't fit
* hit send
* reply to your own post
* "paste" what you "cut" before

Now you have two posts in a chain instead of one, and didn't lose anything you wrote. If it's *still* over the limit, you can do it again, as many times as you need.

Kilka dni temu wyczaiłem, że istnieje takie narzędzie jak @birb, które przenosi („papuguje”) kanały RSS do Fediversum. Natworzyłem tym sposobem trochę „papug” i co ciekawsze podrzucam, może skorzystacie. Zachęcam również do tworzenia własnych.

We ARE the algorithm. But that also means it can take a little extra work to get the feed that works for you.

How do YOU curate your feed? How do you use lists?

Here's my algorithm:
Someone posts something cool? Follow 'em.
Someone posts something EXTREMELY COOL (or I've seen their cool content before)?
They get added to my ️ Faves list.

Then, in the Advanced Web Interface (Ala Tweetdeck, see 2nd link below), I've got:

1. ️ Faves. Hide these posts from Home. Also, show me replies IF someone it's a reply to someone else also in my Faves list.

2. Home: folk I follow who aren't in ️ Faves

3. # introduction (to welcome, follow, and boost interesting new folk!)

Pozwolę sobie podpowiedzieć rozwiązanie, jak łatwo i wygodnie obejść ograniczenie maksymalnej wagi i rozmiaru obrazków na Mastodonie, żeby nie męczyć się ze skalowaniem i zapisywaniem mniejszych plików.

Wystarczy wyświetlić sobie zdjęcie i zrobić printscreena, którego normalnie wklei się już do wpisu.

Tylko trzeba pamiętać, że jak ma się bardzo dużą rozdzielczość ekranu, to zdjęcie należy wyświetlać sobie nie na pełnym ekranie, tylko pomniejszone.

I’ve already reported this to Mona, my current third-party app of choice, but I felt this applied to others as well because it’s not the only app with this issue. If your toot character count is huge, 10,000 characters or more,, and you don’t use a CW, content warning, content rapper, Fedi subject line, whatever you call it, on a giant post, it breaks my third party app with voiceover and I can’t scroll to your next post. CW’s aren’t just a Fedi scolding thing, no matter how much you want to paint them as such. They can make your timeline easier to read, and they can make third-party apps easier to use. #Fediverse #Mastodon #FediTips

Make a list of things you want to take care of later. Next time you want to start something new, have a look at that list first.

Finish some old tasks! If you are still in mood to start something new after that, let's go!

I put everything IT-related in some lists using Nextcloud Deck. Fix some issues, have a look at that config, test that backup, debug VPN problems, backup my 3D printer config, reconfigure service xyz... don't forget anything.

Achtet beim Posten doch mal drauf, welche Sprache ihr für Eure Posts festgelegt habt. Wenn die falsch ist, funktioniert das "Übersetzen" Feature nicht richtig, welches ich gerne nutze.

In der Mastodon-Web-App bekommt man ein "Übersetzen" Link angeboten, wenn die Sprache des Posts nicht der eigenen entspricht. Und beim selber posten kann man die Sprache auch sehr einfach pro Post umstellen. Jede App, die das hier kompliziert macht, bleibt bei mir zumindest nicht lange installiert.
