Which she paid back. </p><p>When she finally got out of the camps, she worked with the US government as a whistleblower to prosecute detention centre employees who were sterilizing immigrants without consent. </p><p>Who were performing unnecessary hysterectomies and tubal ligations.</p><p>She used her real name. She stood up for injustice. She tried to protect others. </p><p>Now ICE has taken her again, and the media have been largely silent. </p><p>The MAGA crowds are cheering because they have no compassion. </p><p>No one should be treated this way. </p><p>I’m going to keep saying her name until she gets the attention she deserves. About 3 dozen agents, some in full tactical gear, arrested restaurant workers while patrons there and around the area were enjoying dinner. The federal agents didn't expect a resounding rejection by the neighbors and patrons. The community spontaneously protested the ICE agents. ICE discharged three flash-bang grenades to disperse the crowd. The people instead pushed ICE agents out of their community forcing the vehicles to retreat, shouting anti-fascist slogans. It is ultimately reductive to argue that the 2020 George Floyd protests were by themselves responsible for the broader fascist “white-lash” driving Trump’s second rise to power in an already white supremacist America, and disempowering to believe organized resistance against that white supremacy accomplished nothing merely because a state that was never designed to protect racialized people, or the labor class in general, refused to take meaningful action against police violence. Those hard-fought hours in the streets opened a broad swathe of society’s eyes to the racist and violent nature of American policing, taught communities across the globe how to organize in the face of state-sanctioned repression, and helped make so many young people “woke” that the fascist Trump regime is trying to make “wokeness” illegal.
