The Kdenlive team is heading to #Berlin for a sprint from September 2nd to 5th, 2025! Stay tuned for more details soon.

Developers are welcome — if you can't make it in person we'll try to organize something online as well!

And to wrap things up, we’re hosting a Community Meetup on the last day of the sprint, open to everyone. Mark your calendar and come say hi! 💙

Oh, and we'll be at @akademy - so register now!

Historical service and star project of our association, #Framalibre is presented as "the directory of free"!

This tool allows you to find free alternatives to most existing proprietary software and services.

Plus, it allows you to be an actor and contribute to the directory!

Last year, the association l'Échappée Belle, helped by our members, carried out a complete overhaul of the directory.

Take a look at framalibre.org/!

The MathWorks outage is the perfect time to look at GNU Octave! No license servers to deal with for FLOSS! octave.org/

Even if it's not helpful right now during the outage, consider it for future work to avoid stoppage the next time the MathWorks hostage server goes down.

Is this really the end of HexChat?

"Developers All Hands On Deck"

There are not that many irc clients, although the Protocol for real-time Internet chat and messaging is extremely popular in the free open software community and there are an infinite number of users and developers on all kinds of topics exchanged in the channels.

What a great and moving moment it was, after which the freenode server was corrupted by the selfishness of one person and the "former" staff not only issued a warning, but also libera.chat was founded! In no time at all, all channels of the free software scene migrated from freenode to Libera.chat, a few, such as kali-linux, migrated to the oftc or others, but then let themselves be represented via channel bots on libera.chat to keep the connection.. And it was kept! And the connections are still in place!
From my point of view, this great movement is the most beautiful example of unity among the free-thinking FOSS, FLOSS, FSF people ever!

Internet Relay Chat protocol is more alive than ever and that's why projects like Hexchat can't die!

The alternatives I can think of would be Weechat and irssi (commandline).

Or ChatZilla in the browser (Seamonkey).. unfortunately, I personally can't think of many more possibilities right now.

Please Please stop the madness! Stop using Java-script for Unix/Linux tutorials !!

As an intensive Unix and Linux user, I love to use a command-line browser. As a rule, these are links, elinks or lynx for me.

So far, they have guided me to my goal at lightning speed, are resource-saving, require little bandwidth, do not distract with unnecessary bells and whistles and, above all, they work even if the X-system fails and I have to boot without a desktop !

For me, commandline or text-based browsers are part of the Linux fire brigade and are the salvation of many users in need. But it doesn't help at all if manuals, help pages and other tutorials use Java-script!

In the example below, you can see a search query in the links browser with the parameters: "Linux close all windows commandline"

Of the 10 websites shown in the search results, 7 (!) could not be displayed at all because of Javascript, 2 did not really correspond to the parameters and only one (the github page) had a corresponding readable answer.

Does that make sense?
Absolutely not!!

Therefore, an anxious request:

Dear Tutorial Content Creators, Dear OS Developers please stop using Javascript or at least provide a plain text or html option, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

🌍 Commons, Not Conglomerates
Taxation can guide, not punish. Steuern steuern.

🏢 Proprietary IP → high tax
🧩 Permissive FLOSS → moderate tax
🔄 Copyleft/commons → near-zero tax + public support

And when you share while alive, society buys your freedom — castles, cars, and all.

This is the give economy.
Not charity. Incentivized solidarity.
