#Capitalism has developed many ways to exploit and extract rent from ordinary people who are trying to scratch a living on the Web. #Substack, #Etsy, #OnlyFans and many others seek to monopolise spaces and to parasitise.

It's always seemed to me that the obvious response to this was to set up a co-operatively owned Web payments system, and I've been surprised that none has emerged.

The folk at Comreadery appear to be making a serious try. It looks worth supporting.

An example of what I mean: I looked on Etsy for some animal candle molds, and literally got the same factory made stuff that was being advertised with the same photo, from dozens of supposedly unique "shops."

What Etsy did was break its own model to allow numerous "shops" selling the same factory made crap onto a site that was supposed to be only for artisans & hand-crafted items. Why? Greed. More "stuff," more clicks, they thought.

And many artisans and a lot of customers voted with their...keyboards, and went elsewhere.
