Na de laatste Elfstedentochten, in ‘85, ‘86 (woensdag 39 jaar geleden), en '97, is de tocht nog één keer bíjna doorgegaan. In 2012 was de koorts begin februari al alom aanwezig, maar werd de tocht afgeblazen omdat het ijs niet goed genoeg was. Toch gingen honderden mensen het ijs op, om een stukje of de hele tocht te schaatsen. Marcel Clement (64) schaatste met drie familieleden de hele tocht. Hij maakte er afgelopen december een beeldend verslag van: De Elfstedentocht 2012 tóch gereden!
