Johnson also expanded a #deduction break for #state & #local #tax payments, a priority for a handful of centrist #Republicans who represent high-tax states like New York & California.

#Democrats blasted the bill as disproportionately benefiting the #wealthy while cutting #benefits for working Americans. CBO found it would reduce #income for the #poorest 10% of US households & boost income for the top 10%.

It now looks like the cuts in PIP payments being balanced with a rise in UC payments is essentially a transfer of income/benefits from the disabled to the able.... if so, this benefit reorganisation is really pretty grim.

Its good that Universal Credit is to rise, but if that is essentially to be funded by removing benefits from 700,000 disabled people then what we are seeing is immoral.

This is just zero-sum politics of the worst kind!

The #budget of the Ctr for #Medicare & #Medicaid Services would be slashed by $674M, but the #Trump budget claims the cuts would have *no impact* on providing #benefits to those enrolled in the #HealthInsurance programs.

Rather, it says, the budget “eliminates funding that had been used to carry out non-statutory, wasteful & woke activities,” in the 1st time a presidential budget has used the word “woke” in describing priorities. The budget also “eliminates #HealthEquity - focused activities.”

Wouldn't it be great if instead of looking for new powers to surveil & punish the small number of benefits fraudsters, the Govt. sought such measures to deal with tax evaders - but oh no, once again a 'difficult decision' has been made to focus on the poor & vulnerable while the rich run rings round the tax authorities....

While the DWP has been clawing back money 'overpaid' to carers, the've also been more quietly resolving their own internal miscalculations that have (so far) revealed over 170,000 (mostly women) being under-paid on the state pensions.

Mostly caused by the DWP not recognising spousal contributions the underpayments have already passed £1bn & may reach £3bn.

Its a massive scandal of withholding money owed to pensioners - strange how DWP's mistakes seldom lead to over payments!

…Sens Murkowski & Collins joined Democrats last week to back a bipartisan amendment led by Sen Hawley that would have eliminated the #Medicaid cuts from the budget. Their effort failed after GOP leaders labored to ensure its defeat. A broader amendment *vowing* to *protect* Medicaid & #Medicare passed [meaningless platitudes].
