#Superman, #Andor, #SydneySweeney's Jeans: Can #Media Really be Radical? (w/ #JaredBall)
On #Andor, #revolution, and #characterbuilding in #nowadays #storytelling:
"In these universes characters and settings are monetary assets, to be exploited, protected, and manipulated according to the owner’s wishes. Understanding them requires understanding what the owner wants: how this story fits not just with the other stories to which it is connected but into the ever-proliferating network of brand identity and profit opportunities of which it is a part. (This is one of the things that differentiates such corporate storytelling from mere sequels, and from the more familiar dictates of genres and adaptations.) It takes so much #metatextual awareness that it can feel, at times, like watching Hollywood movies made under the Hays Code, or like reading novels written under strict censorship. The best works of corporate storytelling are, in a sense, acts of quiet resistance, written in the blank spots of the #enforcednarrative."

The relentless waves of bigotry, Fascism and ignorance have been hitting me hard today, so this is giving me particular strength, some of you may recognise it....
The idiots who think Star Trek is too political these days will also completely miss what Andor was about.
But the rest of us, who read and understand narratives get just how fucking important that show is, I know I've been feeling a bit 'Andor' these days....watching my back...

like you telling me someone snorted a line of ground up mousedollars during preproduction of #Andor and they could simply not come up with a better surname for this weasly-yet-startlingly-handsome rogue than "something that sounds exactly like a major plot location in the original trilogy"?????
COME THE FUCK ON
"usual SW plot holes" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here obviously, there's just so many to choose from.
sure, fella just gonna randomly joyride a junkyard starship to some other planet overnight like it's a quick drive to the next city?
every god damned planet is either 1) a single small sized city in a barren wasteland or 2) an ecumenopolis – nothing in between? EVER? What the christ graham-cracker fuck.
also don't get me started on the names, mister Kassian "Forest Moon Of" Ændor… #Andor
#Andor S1E1-3: ok yup pretty good.
Good:
- well produced (mousedollars)
- snappy writing
- great acting/direction
- more of the space fantasy we know/love (brick buildings & space-age-yet-old-timey bell tower of Ferrix are chefs-kiss)
- usual blink-and-you'll-miss-it references to rest of franchise
Bad:
- tons of props have irritating theme-park "obviously new thing made to look old" feel
- usual SW plot holes like "why tf everyone park-n-ride"
- computer tech varies WILDLY scene to scene

As part of my. #StarWars continuation after finishing #Andor, today it's time for the first of the #Ewoks films; #CaravanOfCourage. I should've watched it before #ReturnOfTheJedi, but I didn't even realise it existed until I was looking for the Ewoks animated series. Better late than never

I have friends everywhere.
Do you?
Finishing up our season one rewatch of #Andor because -- even though it's always the right time -- this is the perfect day to remember the importance of resistance against a fascist empire.
