Val Packett 🧉
Finally installed #AerynOS on a spare drive (for now at least), super cool :3

Because it wouldn't be me if I went with recommended configurations, I decided to try using #systemd-homed for my user account, with fscrypt on f2fs (for which I had to rebuild the kernel with
CONFIG_FS_ENCRYPTION
).

It actually all just works… well, the difficult parts work great. I've spent 2 hours banging my head against the wall with the absolute silliest possible bug:
homectl create
would just Not Work because I didn't type the password quickly enough.

The error is literally "Transport endpoint is not connected" x_x but what it actually meant there is that authentication timed out in sd-bus because homectl blocked the whole main thread with the CLI password prompt, not calling sd-bus again until the password had been entered twice, at which point sd-bus goes "oop too much time has passed, giving up".

Computers…

OpenTech
Serpent OS Renamed to AerynOS Amid Funding Struggles

Before its first stable release, Serpent OS has been renamed AerynOS. Founder Ikey Doherty cites the need for a more positive identity. However, financial troubles continue to slow development. Doherty, known for Solus OS, has faced similar challenges in the past. The transition to AerynOS is set for March 17, 2025—ironically, St. Patrick’s Day, known for driving out snakes.

#AerynOS #Linux #SerpentOS

Peter "Poly" Paterson
After about 9 years of using Linux Mint I discovered Solus in November 2016 and I was hooked. Through IRC and the forum @ikey and I became good friends.
Knowing I would be visiting Ireland with Arianna in October 2018 I arranged to meet with Ikey in Tullamore, County Offaly. Unfortunately for us, he had to move to England a few months before our visit. Arianna still visited the town and had a great time touring around.
I am still using Solus these days, on my Razer Blade 15 laptop, with PCLinuxOS on my main desktop. The team are maintaining and developing the OS really well. Budgie remains my DE for that distro.
Ikey is now working with a team on Serpent OS, a wonderful Linux project that I have been following. https://serpentos.com/ This project will soon be renamed to AerynOS.
Do yourself a favour and try out the live-USB for yourself.
