GRK 2571 - Empires
African Heritage In Europe: Join a special screening of “Dahomey” and “If Objects Could Speak” on 24 July at 19:30, hosted by Kommunales Kino Freiburg (Urachstr. 40, 79102 Freiburg). Both films address the colonial appropriation of African cultural objects and pose vital questions about restitution, identity, and justice.

Afterwards, Dr. Kokou Azamede (Université Lomé, Togo) and filmmaker Elena Bauer will discuss these issues on a panel moderated by Dr. Richard Legay (ABI). Dr. Anna Latour
I'm very honoured to be among this year's NWO (Dutch Research Council) Veni research grant recipients, for my proposal "Finding Variables that Matter"!

I cannot quite believe it, but I'm excited to get started on the actual research.

Many congratulations to all of my colleagues who received their Veni grants. Over the last few months, I was lucky enough to get to know them and their research, and I can't wait to see what they do with the funds.

I'm grateful to Delft University of Technology and all my colleagues and trainers for their support and trust. Dr. Anna Latour
Hi everyone,

I feel like a re-introduction is long overdue!

My name is Anna, and I'm an assistant professor of Algorithmics at the Delft University of Technology, specialising in combinatorial optimisation, symbolic AI, constraint programming, propositional model counting, operations research and reasoning under uncertainty.

I'm a nerd, a feminist and a traveller, not always in that order.

In my spare time I like to hike and go geocaching. I try to go swing dancing a few times a week. I am a Trekkie. I want to learn how to draw. I am an Indomie and Obsidian enthusiast. Based in the Netherlands, I miss Belgium, Canada and Singapore.

Since a job in academia somehow always is personal, I have chosen to mix professional interactions with the more personal ones on this platform. At least for now. ZenodoLITERATURE REVIEW: Exploring Academic Staff Engagement on MastodonThis research project explores the role of Mastodon in academic communication. Sparked by a shift away from X/Twitter due to concerns over misinformation and harassment, Mastodon has become a growing space for scholarly exchange. Despite this trend, little is known about how academics engage with the platform. We conducted this study to understand academic staff's perceptions, motivations, usage patterns, and the platform’s potential benefits and challenges. The project employed a mixed-methods approach, resulting in a three-part study comprising (1) a literature review, (2) a quantitative survey, and (3) qualitative interviews. This literature review aimed to gain a comprehensive understanding of academic social media usage by examining current theories and empirical research. This review centers on the social media platforms Mastodon, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The publication date range was limited to 2012-2024.
