It's frightening to see how fast and widely the misinformation spreads about current situation. Some people see the situation as is (sometimes even panicking/getting scared), others show support to the offender.

One thing most people now have in common is diversification and hate towards the other group. I might be wrong but I think it was a trap from a very beginning. Maybe it was even planned. It's a good way to distract people from a real problem, just make them focus on hating each other
